Hello all, have been quiet for a while been trying to hold out until after my time was up with my insurance company for any possibility of pre-existing conditions. So....needless to say I am scheduled for my hydro=cysto=biopsy on the 22nd. I have been reading the stories, I was allready scared, but now i am horrified. And...my doctor told me that, worst case scenario can be an actual bursting of the bladder!!! AAARRGG And most of you seem to talk about how bad it hurts after, so I am at a loss and not sure if I should even do it. However, he has stated that he has to do this in order to beable to rule out all else. He says that with my symptoms he is sure that is what i have but he has to rule out other things. How do they know when to stop filling? Are you cathed afterwards? Hopefully they give yo something for the pain afterwards??
EEEKKK Pls Help :help: :hmm:

I know there are a lot of horror stories...I had mine Jan. 26, and yes I was very sore afterwards. But, a week later I felt pretty much back to normal (whatever THAT means, lol!). So, yes there will be pain. I lived on regular Tylenol and my heating pad and did okay. Follow the IC diet strictly afterwards too, since you'll be extra sensitive.
Good luck!

I had a cysto/hydro about 2 years ago and it wasn't that bad. I had it on a Thursday, took Friday off from work, and was pretty much ready to work again Monday. The pain subsided for me pretty quickly; I was just tired as all get out for a while.
They know when to stop filling because they have a pressure gauge on the cystoscope and know what pressure equals "full." It is possible that the bladder can tear, but it's pretty rare -- you may have read horror stories here, but honestly, it is quite unusual.
Some people wake up catheterized, especially if you have a biopsy -- I didn't; my IC was VERY apparent upon inspection and he didn't even bother with the biopsy. I didn't have a catheter when I woke up, and I was also able to pee on my own within about 90 minutes of waking up from anesthesia.
I was prescribed pain medication afterwards. I was given a shot of Dilaudid in the recovery room, and then sent home with Percocet, so I was okay.
I'm sure you'll do fine... I know it's scary, but it sounds a lot worse than it is :grouphug: Believe me, I was TERRIFIED before I had mine, but it turned out to be okay, and I'm sure yours will too. :)

do tell :biglaugh: normal.. ha ha
there are many ladies on here that have hydros as a regular IC treatment. Donna has had 35 or more.. and she swears by them.. I don't do well with hydros.. but that is just me..
I would not worry about bursting your bladder, they are very careful.. this is done undersedation, and they do cath you and drain out what they put in..
keep us posted on how you are doing, and it would not hurt to ask for an rx of vicodine ;)

I've had 3 of them and I go back to work the next day. Maybe this is because my IC is mild (I don't experience pain only frequency and pressure). After the hydro/cysto It takes a while before you can pee properly and it may sting a bit, but besides that it wasn't too bad for me. Don't worry too much everyone is different.

For an optimistic view: They give most people a decrease in urgency and frequency, at least for a few days, sometimes more. Also, they sometimes put people into remission and if you have any ulcers they can be removed so pain would be decreased.
Plus, you have the right to ask for pain meds as soon as you wake-up : )
I won't lie, they do hurt and the last one caused damage; I'm having a 5th one done so it's not that horrible. In terms of having your bladder burst, that should not happen if your uro is stretching it slowly so if it does rupture they would stop stretching it and pour out the fluids.
I'd guess that people who have had it burst it was due to negligence by their urologist
