Hi! I think you should call your URO.
I used to get those instills all the time (elmiron, lidocaine, bicarb). I would get the spasms so bad that she couldn't do the instills. She ended up perscribing something for me to take prior to going for the treatment, to relax my bladder so she could get the catheter in.
There are a lot of things that your URO can give you for the spasms. Mine were so bad that she gave me B&O (belladonna and opium) suppositories.
Good luck and I hope your bladder calms down.

if you don't mind me asking what type of rescue treatment did he give you. Mine is of heparin, marcaine and a water mixer. I've never had bladder spasm after a treatment they have always relax my bladder. You could had contacted baterica when they put in the cath. somehow it could had been that you had baterica on the out side of the vag. walls and if the RN didn't wash you well. it could had enter inside you causing this infection. there is so many ways for baterica to enter down stairs for an infection to had started so to be on the safe side i would call the uro and be checked. If this continues to be a problem i would ask the uro to try a different type of rescue treatment for you.
in the mean time try ice pack or an heating pad on the bladder. ask for an anti spasm medicine if you don't already have one. try getting some ex. rest. pain medicine even if you have some type of nerve pill like a klonopin your dr has gaven you this works well for me as an anti bladder spasm medicine.
hope some of this information helps

I used to have a bad reaction pain & some spasms after my instills, but it usually only lasted 3 days or so. We then figured out I am allergic to the preservatives in them. Since we ordered the presrvative free meds, I do not have this reaction only wonderful relief! I posted on here about the ndc# for them, try searching under preservtive free instill meds if you wan to try them! My instills are rescue instills lidocaine/marcaine/sodium bicard and solu cortef.

My heparin or elimiron instills have been soothing. The catheter has caused some discomfort tho for a couple of days afterwards. Could that be what's causing your "bladder" spasming? Just a thought. Hope things quiet down soon.

Agree - preservative allergies may be at fault - look at your diet as well - may be causing other IC symptoms - preservatives are everywhere and in alot of foods and drinks. I had the same reaction. I had to take a lot of Atarax to get over the instillation. But I did and now I've had no symptoms for 2 mos and no longer take meds. Just as long as I stay away from food preservatives. - good luck
