I have been diagnosed with luteal phase defect where my progesterone is very low, almost too low to support pregnancy. I have had 2 beautiful babies and received progesterone injections to support my second pg. I became pregnant lst month and lost the baby this past weekend. I suspect it was due to low pregesterone. My dr. wants me to take prometrium orally or vaginally to keep my progesterone levels elevated instead of the shots b/c the prometrium is natural as opposed to the shots which are synthetic. When we were trying to conceive our first, my fertility dr. had me on vaginal prometrium which sent me into the emergency room with the worst flare of my life. Anyone had luck, good or bad, with oral prometrium used in this way? I want to do everything in my power to help my next baby survive. If prometrium is the only answer, is there anything I can take to buffer it? Prelief does not work for me...it actually makes it worse. :hmm:

i have used prometrium orally. didn't experience a flare. i had flares with clomid, and once we figured out they were caused by clomid, i used urelle the following medicated cycles. it seemed to help.
unfortunately, i dont' have a success story for you though.
good luck. i hope you are able to tolerate the prometrium orally.

It is hopeful to hear it didn't cause you pain. The last time I took clomid, 4 years ago I didn't have a flare, but my IC was also extremely mild then compared to now. If I take it again I will watch for that. Thanks.

I hope you can use Prometrium, my doc gave it to me to prepare for Hydrothermal Ablation, I took 1 pill & was sick the next morning. He gave me Errin instead. Now I use Fem Gest (like a pinky finger tip's worth) twice a day, 3 weeks on, 1 week off. It's working well for me:-)

I represent 1% of the IC population with my problems with medications and IC, so none of this may happen to you at all. You may go through the whole fertiltiy process and come out with beautiful babies and no IC trouble in the end at all. This was just what happened to me.
Just a warning to those of you who want to take prometrium or any other fertility type drugs and you have IC already. Caution must be taken. Prometrium absolutley killed me and I dont have IC anymore. It killed my left in urethra and bladder neck and now I am facing removal major surgery. Fertility Medications ruined what chance of a life I was going to have. All I wanted was a baby. I was ready! After one round of fertility injections and Premetrium, I have lost it all. Babies and now my urethra and bladder neck.
This may not happen to all of you but it did happen to me. I will NEVER take those meds again. I am so sorry I tried them. If I knew what I know now, I would not have done that. But we didn't know that was going to happen. Someday IC docs will connect this fertility stuff and hormones with IC but right now none of them get it. It's all new to them. I don't know what in those fertiltiy drugs I took did this to me but it was something. Before this, I was fine. No babies for me and now major surgery.

I too did the fertility treatments & was lucky enough to have my daughter through IVF, but now I have constant urethral pain (before it was only right before my period & would go away with my period & never constant like it is now). I am trying a new treatment of urethral suppositories with Dr. Moldwin & I pray to God it works. Be careful!

I think all those drugs were harmful in many ways, but without them I wouldn't have my sweet daughter. I went through IVF (carried twin girls 21 weeks) and a frozen embryo transfer, along with several IUIs. I didn't have IC until 7 months after my daughter was born, but that was also a month after a D&C for a blighted ovum and a new form of birth control pills. I really think the birth control is what did me in...so be careful with the hormones. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not...
I hope everything works out for you! :kissing:

I took Lupron, Follistim, Cetrotide, Ovidrel, and Prometrium and am I ever so sorry that I took these drugs. It would have been one thing if I ended up with a Beautiful Daughter in the end but instead I am ending up having major surgery. I wish I could push the rewind button!
