Ladies, I've been taking Urelle as needed for the past three years and religiously for the past three months. It's helped marginally, but I switched to OTC Uristat because I wanted to see if it made a bigger difference in pain control... other than blue vs. orange! It seemed to help more, but I was wondering if Pyridium is the way to go for those really bad flares. I know you can't take it for an extended period of time, but for those bad times... Would you recommend Pyridium over Uristat? Does it work that much better? Thanks!

blue is better for me, but pyridium plus (prescription) also called urelief is what i take in a really bad flare along with the urelle. over the coounter uristat or pyridium don't work very well for me.

I used both pyridium and pryridium plus. They helped me ALOT.

BUT...I think blue pee would be really cool :biglaugh:

Pyridium plus is pyridium, an anticonvulsant (a bit like Neurontin), and an antispasmodic hyoscyamine that works on your digestive musscles as well as your bladder musscles...be aware.

What are all the OTC blue and orange products available to try?

How is pyridium different from Uristat?

Really? Pyridium is similar to neurontin? An anti-convulsant? I didn't know that. Would explain why it helps me then. Blue does nothing and usually makes me worse.

I prefer Pyridium. It is what gets me through the bad flares. I hate the orange dye but it truly takes the burn out and settles my bladder down. I only take it a few times a month for bad flares before and after my period. It does the trick almost every time. I bought a very expensive bottle of Urelle and didn't like the side effects and it did nothing for me. I felt jittery and spacey from it. Now it just sits there in my collection..lol. It also didn't seem to do very much. I take a 200MG Pyridium and always am able to fall asleep even during a really bad flare.

Glad you guys responded. Thanks. I take one pyridium plus every once in a while, I never tried the other stuff. The pyridium plus as IC Princess said, always quieted my bladder and helped me fall asleep.

Actually to be honest, I didn't like the Pyridium Plus. I know its helped a lot of people but it actually made it harder to pee and made me retain water. I do love the basic regular Pyridium which seems to always do the trick for me. I always up my Calcium Citrate during this time and then take a Pyridium. Both really take a lot of the burn out. :)

Sorry ICPrincess...I didn't mean to miss quote you :)

I do agree, the regular pyridium did work wonders for me also.

Is Pyridium OTC, or prescription only? I know P Plus is by prescription.

I went to the drug store and found uristat and other products but nothing that said pyridium.

Can uristat or pyridium help a flare that is making your whole abdomen uncomfortable or your back as well as your bladder?

Or is it only for sharp stinging in the bladder itself and/or urethra?

No not pyridium ...pyridium pluss...pyridium pluss is 3 drugs: 1pyridium, 2hyoscyamine, and 3a portion of an anticonvulsant more like phenobarbital than Neurontin but wasn't sure people would know the drug phenobarbital around here.
I didn't like pyridium pluss either...in part because I am allergic to phenobarbitol and also because I take hyoscyamine already. Sorry to have confussed people. I just think you need to be aware of what pyridium pluss is...in case you are already on an antispasmodic or an anti convulsant it may not be a good choice...you may be better off with plain pyridium. Very sorry to have confussed people!!

Pyridium is available non presciption such as in AZO Standard.

Diane, I was reading the other post where you were thinking about the possibility of a nerve problem and pyridium helping...has anything else ever helped? :grouphug: Sure hope you get answers and feel better!!!!
