Yes I see the figure reflecting in the water...very well spotted Liz.
Here are two quilts I have done as wedding gifts. The butterfly ws for my niece and as it was my first quilt, i had it professionally quilted but it cost $150.00 to have it done.
The second was for my nephew who married a canadian girl, hence the australian floral prints in the maple leaf pattern. Please don't looke at my points...I messed them up big time but was unable to fix them. I machine quilted this piece and I was pretty pleased with myself.

I want one of those bug eating machines!!!
The girl in white is wild! Wow! You sure have lots of scenic places nearby, D!
The butterfly quilt is my favorite. I don't think I've ever seen one with butterflies on it. That reminds me, I change my mind about the bug eater. He probably eats butterflies too & I just can't have all my friends getting eaten.
Well, we had some really bad storms here all day yesterday. One tornado warning right after another from rise till fall. All is well here, though. Here's a pic of the hail that we got.

One storm just passed & another one was coming when I took this picture. You couldn't see the sunset, but here's a pic of it still painting the clouds.

:) Karma no need to worry about the butterflies, these critters mainly come out at night when the butterflies are not around, they eat moths and mossies, and I don't mind that.
Wow, good size hailstones you got there! I just heard on the news here earlier about the tornado's, that must be frightening!!! hope you don't get anymore tornadoes for now, stay well!!

Thanks for your comments on the quilts everyone. Liz, the Australian/canadian one is on my site listed below in my signature. You may have seen its progress there.
Karma, we saw the tornados on the news the other night. it must be terrifying to live through one of those things. The newscast was forcasting more of them. They said it had somthing to do with the unusually warm weather? I hope you are all safe.

The daffodils are ready to bloom it looks like. We had TONS of them in our flower bed at the other house so many so that they got on my nerves! Someone asked me recently if i wanted some and I turned them down due to the overabundance I've dealt with previously..haha
Good grief Karma! Those hail stones are as big as golf balls! The storm cloud picture is quite dramatic. I hope you faired OK through the storms. Tornadoes are quite frightening since theyre so unpredictable!
Hey Rosalie, where's my quilt? Probably with the same mailman who took the cookie dough that Tracey sent me a month or so ago...hmmm...

Holy photographs Batman! I have been soooooo behind! Liz, glad to see you jumped on in, and great pics to boot! Love the sunsets and the kitty! I am a total kitty girl, speaking of, mine is decided she needs to be on my lap, I feel her tugging at my jammy bottoms...OH NO! I just knocked her off my lap! Oh my poor kitty! I didn't know she was making her move, I moved my arm - while she was leaping up and I knocked her right down on the floor mid jump!! Oh gotta give her lots of hugs and pets now, I feel terrible!!! I just put her on my lap - and she's probably thinking "I need to do that more often!" lol. Oh poor kitty, ugh, I feel like a bad mom!!!
And D, I think you should stick with 21, it looks very good on you!! ;) I guess I'd better get moving with the camera, yeesh. Been working again on some more home projects, damn that HGTV! I am now on an organizing kick - lots of cool storage boxes like I see on TV, so my evenings have been spent doing that stuff...waiting for some to arrive that I ordered the other day...heh heh heh. And we painted the kitchen this weekend, must get a shot of that, don't know if you'll be able to see the difference in a photo on the walls, but the counters now have been reclaimed! yahoo!! Then we have been working on the bedroom, that got repainted and Jer's working on the trim now - even got a new bedroom door!!!! Yahoo!!! It's looking so nice - can't wait til it's all put back together, so I can begin the organizing up there as well...all kinds of ideas...hee hee hee.....
Wow, Karma! That's some serious hail! I was getting a little wiggy up here, as we were to get some storms, but ended up with nothing major. It was funny, the other day the southern half of the state had tornado watches, and our part (the northern part) had winter weather advisories, lmao!!! "why Toto, is that snow??" lol.
When my first husband and I went to Cancun, we had a little gecko guy in our room the whole time, lol. I named him Paco as I was missing my kitties, so he was my pet while we were gone. All was good til the night he decided that over the bed was the place to stay - I slept with the sheet over my head all night...LOL!!!

I'm just sitting here wondering how I can manage hanging around with all y'all 20 somethings .... guess I must be young at heart! (yeah sure ...that's it ...)
Now I have some photos I can start my own wall of fame here in my little computer room. This way I can see who's talking!!
This little Talbot sometimes makes it difficult to type or read or do anything much since he's a real lap-cat. Now matter what I'm doing (yes, even on the potty)he needs to be on my lap. I can't even count how many times I've kicked him or knocked him over when he's ready to launch into lap. Then I'm always so contrite ....wouldn't ever hurt him intentionally. This is hard to get used to since the previous cat-of-the-house was much more reserved and chose his affectionate moments very carefully. This meant I could actually get something done around here!! Now I will attempt to do some laundry and will talk to you all later!

You just keep it in your head that all of us here are in our 20's!!!!..we're loving that!!!...hahahaha..
I'm glad my cats not a lap cat--especially since I dont like the little feline! or any other little felines (nothing personal to y'all kitty lovers). This cat we have was suppose to be free--that has proven to be the most expensive free cat i've ever owned (theres a picture posted of the cat sitting in my bathroom. Rosalie was curious to know what kind of TP (or PT for those of you DOWN UNDER) i use and when I took the picture the cat just happened to be in the bathroom..hahaha..so check it out if you'd like..

I missed all your posts yesterday but I had a very good reason.
Yesterday I met Andrea (Andcohen aka Cohen3) when she and her mother Sue came to Melbourne.
It was wonderful catching with her but it was on the way back to the airport that Andrea pointed out that we hadn't taken any photos. So in the one minute drop off zone we quickly snapped some. I was not going to miss the opportunity to show her off to everyone here.....and I'm going to post in the other picture thread too!
This one is of Andrea (on the right) and Sue.

Oh what fabulous pictures we got going on!! Oh I totally agree, this 37 year old loves being thought of as a 20 something!! Ooops, I just ruined it didn't I? Now you all know I am not in my 20's, dang......lmao.
Oh Liz, glad to hear I am not the only one accidentally knocking kitties over!! LOL She's a lap lover as well, and as soon as you sit down at the computer or the on the potty, she knows she has your undivided attention, lmao! We even have a game I call "the potty game". She waits for you to flush the toilet. And since I always put the lid down (out of habit, had a cat that drank out of the toilet), she waits for that too. So, as soon as the "flush/lid shut" happens she jumps up on the toilet and waits for me to carry her out of the bathroom. If you don't she'll sit there in the dark til you come back for her, lmao!! It's fun to tease by pretending you are going to flush... I have posted this lovely shot of me before, lol, but it shows what she was trying to accomplish this morning:

Oh yeah Martha, I will have to get busy with that camera again! Seems like so much going on, I keep forgetting to snap them! I am bummed I never did get a "before" pic of the bedroom, duh! What was I thinking!!! ARGH!!! Just bought a bunch of new window treatments at JC Penney online tonight. Jer and I picked out new roman shades for the living room and the bedroom. And new valances for the kitchen, woo hoo!! Fun fun fun!!! Oh yes, trytosmile (Jen) is a wonderful person, we had a lovely time!!! :kissing:

Hi Tracey,
I really have to laugh ....looks just like me at the computer where only the cat has been changed! Oh and the hairdo of course!! There isn't really enough room between cat and desk but he scrunches in there all right!! Funny critters, cats.
I had a cat a number of years ago who used to fall into the toilet if I left it open .....I guess he was fishing? He never told me. Not too bright I suppose but it was big time unpleasant to have a wet cat jump up onto your lap .... especially since I knew where he had been swimming!! I got very good at closing the lid all the way ....all the time.
Wish I could go shopping with you gals. I've been feeling lately I need to get some new friends. Funny how the folks you thought would be there through it all .... now have better things to do. For awhile they asked but now don't even bother since I have to turn them down so often. At least you wouldn't complain that I was going to the restroom too much!
I did make one new friend, lady who just moved in the house behind mine. She speaks no english and I speak no spanish ....BUT I am learning. It's been fun and I'm learning so much about Colombia .... Oh I can also tell what the workman who are working on my house are saying! hee hee ....if they only knew!! buenos noches todas! Liz

03-15-2006, 03:55 PM
:) hey Liz, you are so funny! I surpose a wet cat smells just as bad as a wet dog, yuk!!!
I know what you mean about having to turn people down all the time, I have the same problem, I cannot walk very far without feeling utterly exhausted, it seems at times that I am a prisoner in my own home :headbang:
Tracey, I just watch the oprah show, and she had that cute interior designer '' Nate Berkus'' on again, I wouldn't mind him coming to my place to do some designing, he does some great work!!
Rosalie
03-15-2006, 06:26 PM
Hey there Martha, what sort of designing did you have in mind? :biglaugh:
I didn't see the show today but if you say he was cute I believe you.
Cats are the craziest creatures! I grew up with them. Mum always had cats to keep the mice down and I had a little kitty named Warwick when I first moved into my house. He was a mad as a cut snake. He would attack my dog from behind an dthen run off. Very funny to see.
Alas the DH is severely allergic...sometimes I wonder if I should have gotten another cat instead :biglaugh:
Yep Martha and Liz. it's so nice not having to explain yourself to others. Everybody here know what we are talking about!
Oh and Liz, I haven't fitted into the twenty something for more than twenty something years! Its all good!

Oh Yuk!!!! :shake: I knew I should have never mention that camera thing again or I would live to regret it. Oh how I hate photots of me, although I wish I had remembered to take my silly glasses off for it. They are seeing glasses but they are those silly ones that tint down to dark when you are in the sun & I carn't stand them dark, they look gross. Anyway that's me, so I'm sure you will all get a good night's sleep knowing that ( HA HA Sorry to disappoint) as you can see I am very negitive of myself these day's, if only I had the figure I had in my early 20's......dream on girl.
Anyway I had a lovley time catching up with Rosalie, we didn't get much time but it was good anyway & It was so very nice of her to pick me up from my DR. & also drive us back out to the Airport. So a big THANK YOU & HUG TO YOU ROSALIE  Boy did I manage to get some shopping in. Thank goodness my IC was behaving most of the time, maybey it should'nt have been & I wouldn't have come home several hundred dollars poorer :bonk: But whilst I am staying with my parents & fortunate enough to not have any bills or rent at the moment I thought I would have one last splurge, & mainly on me, first time in a long time. I bought that bag in the photo, I am soo in loove with it & rightly so it cost me enough.
Well my DR's visit was all good but I will post that in another tread.
Keep the photo's comming, we need to intice some new victims now I have been brave ( silly) enough to put my mug on here.

Hey Liz, your turn to make me laugh, I had a cat (Bandit) who loved fresh water. If the water in his bowl was over an hour old, he'd sit in front of it for however long it took to get someone to change it. So, that being said, he discovered the sink faucet. It had a drip, so he'd sit in the sink and wait for it to drip for him - needless to say he was wet all the time!! ICK!! He also had this habit of drinking off his paw - he'd dip it into his water bowl, and lick it off his foot. I finally bought him one of those pet watering bowls that has a constant flow of water through a filter etc. He loved it!! :) I sure do miss him!
Hey Martha, you know who else I'd like to have come decorate? Debbie Travis, she seems like a neat person. And I like the other other one, from the show "Divine Design" Candace something-or-other I think.... My luck I'd end up somehow with a house full of zebra stripes or something...lol. But yep, it is starting to feel like "ours" now, not Tracey and her exes, lol ;)
Oh Andrea! I wish my glasses would tint as they are supposed to, ugh I am forever trying to get them too...never seem dark enough! I did learn a trick from my eye doc, to put water in a bowl (white is best) with ice cubes, pop your glasses in and then put the whole thing in the sun. Then bring them in, let them go back to normal and then treat them to the bath again, you repeat a few times. Helps them to darken well and darken fast. I didn't do it enough, lol. Oh shoot, I was unhappy with my 20 year old body, so that wouldn't do me any good!! LMAO!!
I remember when we (the ex and I) went to Cancun for a week, back in 97 I believe. I banned any and all photos from the top of the thighs down, so that pictures could only be from there up - when in bathing suit. Well, I was not happy when I saw a couple with full thigh shots that stopped at the knees....now I look back and wonder what the heck I was so unhappy with... *sigh* I am thinking on getting my thyroid checked. I have been eating well, hitting Curves 3 days a week, and in a month the scale has NOT budged, this is crazy. I am eating less, so should be losing. Not starving myself so I can't see the old body doing that "oh no! we are in starvation mode" slow down...I just don't know.....oh well...
Oh and Liz, I am jealous of those daffodils!! Mine haven't even peeked up yet, but I guess it's still winter....grrrrr!!!
;)

Hi Tracey and martha,
Just have to say I agree with you about designers. Love Debbie Travis and Candace (Olsen?), Divine Design. They both have such classy designs. Some of these other hacks are all into attitude and they do such weird rooms! That dimwit on Trading Spaces who glued thousands of silk flowers onto the bathroom wall ... what a dodo!! Can you imagine with humidity and all what would be growing on a bathroom wall after awhile with those things!! ugh [Please excuse this previous ranting if you have glued flowers to your walls and love it]
Oh and ....if I ever do get Oprah's designer, please tell him to bring her bottomless checkbook with him!! Those of us in the real world need a fairy godmother .... hee hee ...
Ah I wish I had the figure I had in my 40's ..... or 50's .... I wish I could walk like in my 40's and 50's. I've been home since '98 with spinal disease and if I want to go out to shop ...need a wheelchair and my trusty Richie to push me! Lucky me, I can still get to my favorite haunts like the zoo with his help but it's not the same as on my own.
I should be glad they found out the IC was unrelated to the spinal nerve damage ....but that's for another board!!
Just wanted to let you know I understand about being a prisoner in your own home, Martha!!
see you later! Liz

03-16-2006, 02:48 AM
LMAO, ok I got laughing on the bathroom flowers, good grief what was that bonehead thinking!? Yeah, it might "look" nice (I use your disclaimer Liz to those who may have them glued to their bathroom walls and love them), but not practical!! Some of those designers just crack me up!! YEAH!! Candace Olsen!! Thanks, I was going nuts trying to think of that one! ;)
I also love the show "Mission Organization", I have learned so much and it has spawned my mad organizational obsession as of late...lol. Guess it could be worse... I could be obsessed with dust bunnies or something - and not in a good way, lmao! Except for the one organizer that believes in throwing away the doubles of a picture, nope, I couldn't do it. Would defeat the purpose of me getting doubles...lol
And if there are any typos, I apologize - kitty is in her rightful place on my lap, lol.
I hope Richie is a better chair driver than I am, lol. My girlfriend had knee surgery many years ago, and we went shopping so she hopped in the wheel chair - well, this damn chair didn't steer right (I have the same horrible luck with shopping carts too), and I kept banging her into the end of the isle displays...ugh.
:)

03-16-2006, 04:02 AM
Your mention of the wayward wheelchair made me laugh .....reminds me of my few tries with those motorized carts some of the big stores have here. Richie convinced me to try one out (think he's tired of pushing a chair). You really had to see it ...I was all over the place and hitting counters and crashing into merchandise and shooting forward at lightning speed and scaring senior citizens! I never did cause any fatalities but nearly died of embarassment myself. Now if he looks at the cart when we go into the store I shoot him one of those daggers, looks could kill looks ...
By the way, if we should ever meet, I have my own chair and it's very easy to steer and very light. I did that right away (bought it) when I realized I was going to need one and it's been a blessing. If I travel, it just goes right to the door of the plane with me and they stow it in the hold with the baby strollers and such. Last year I flew solo (without Richie or a friend) and was proud as punch that I was able to navigate so well using the airport personel and a rental car. People are so good when I just open my mouth and say please!![it also helps to have a ready supply of $5 bills in my pocket]
BTW, I'm not wheelchair bound ....just need it to do any distance. I can make it around my house but not across a parking lot or in a store for more than a couple of minutes. This of course makes it possible to do all the things I'd rather not do anyway, but very slowly. Great eh? Grrrrr ....
LOVE Mission Organization and also Clean Sweep here ....Richie laughs at me when I watch the marathon Clean Sweep on the weekends ... one after another, instead of getting up and clean sweeping my own house!!
Oh well Richie, them's the breaks! :biglaugh:

LOL, if someone could see me now, I look just like this morning with kitty monster in my lap, lol.
Oh I hear you on the wheel chair, whatever gets the job done is my motto now a days! ;) I would be terrified to try one of the motorized ones! Seniors, small children and animals would definitely be in danger... not good. Especially after my first and last time with a golf cart - thank goodness no one who worked at the club saw me and my girlfriend driving...oh boy. It was one of those trips to the course where the men were going to "teach" us how to play - yeah right. We ended up giving up and going off-roading with the carts...that was more fun anyway! they should have never given us each one....

Tracey, that's so funny! I can just picture you YAHOOing it all over the borders of the course!! Rich's parents have retired to Florida and they're in a community where most people drive around with golf carts and leave the car in the garage. He gets into trouble whenever he's down there exploring with the silly cart all over the place ....Last time got caught because he figured out how to get through the fence with the cart to the local stores without going out to the main roads...... If they arrest you for that, what on earth do they call it??? HA! :biglaugh:
Ditto here with cat in lap (big surprise eh?) I don't mind as long as he's not licking because it knocks my arm and my typing is bad enough!

LOL, Liz!! That would be so fun toodling around in golf carts! There are a few people in my neighborhood that have them, seen them cruising on down the side of the 2-lane highway to the little corner market, lmao!!! Hey, were you there on that course the day I was 4-wheeling in a golf cart??? Sounds like you saw me, lmao!!! We finally stopped when she accidentally rear-ended me....the guys were mortified... oh what fun! ;) That is a good question, what kind of trouble would he get in, what would they call it? Illegal use of a golf cart???

Hey! ...It's been awfully quiet around here. I guess you gals were waiting for me to come back. What's been happening?
Nothing exciting around here, just too cold to go out to take the next photo in our exciting "watch the daffodils grow". We may have snow tomorrow, but not a lot so I should be able to at least check out the garden. What a spring this has been so far ....at least 10 degrees below normal. Brrrrr..... How do you Michiganers stand this?
Have a great day all, Liz
PS:Bet we can get a good spot on the beach tomorrow ...there will be 50 mph wind gusts ..... and in the 20's overnight. For the downunderers, I don't know how to translate that ...sorry ...

Hi all,
These should be today's daffodil pictures. We have buds!! (yay)....
Does it seem like it's moving awfully slow or is it just me? I guess it's the watched kettle thing and it seems slower because I'm aware of it.
In any case, we do have buds and I can assure you all that soon we will have flowers ...and then I can leave you all alone!! heehee ....
I don't think I have the patience to wait for the tulips for 2 more months!!

Hi Janie,
Your photos are all wonderful! Being a Zoo- ophile myself, I just love the photos from the Memphis Zoo. So when are you coming here so we can go to the Bronx Zoo?? I have to get some of my zoo shots up online soon so you can compare! Oh btw, we also have a wonderful carousel here in New York!! It's new, only about a year old and is all insects! It is quite a sight to see people riding on huge caterpillars and grasshoppers!! I do love the Chinese carousel too ....never saw one like that either. Wouldn't that make an interesting album ...all the different carousels?
Thank you for sharing! Liz

Okay Janie...you've gone and done it. I guess Hubby and I are going to have to get to the zoo. I haven't seen the Pandas in a long time. Haven't seen the new exhibit, either. Memphis has a great zoo. I'm not a zoo fan but I love the Memphis Zoo.

Liz,
I LOVE carousels too. How neat to have one that is all insects - That must be one of the most original carousels ever! Can't wait to see your Bronx zoo photos!
Sharon, I love the Memphis zoo too. I think it is one of the nicest zoos I've ever seen - though certainly, not the biggest. I just love how it is landscaped and how the animals all look so happy and comfortable. The new Northwest exhibit is VERY nice - I know you'll enjoy it. How's the kitchen renovation coming along? I want to see some photos of that! :-)

Hi Janie, Hi Sharon,
Things have realllly changed in recent years!! I'm old enough that I can remember the animals in cages!! Now with the beautiful habitats, the animals truly are happier. This is evidenced by (among other things) the huge rate of reproduction of some of them .... like our gorillas here ...there is always a bunch of new babies there and it's wonderful!! People have been noticing that they are not big savage things ....they're more like people than some people we know!! Last time we were there, there was a new (gorilla) mom trying to nurse her little guy .... while her toddler was behind her on the hill, directing the flow of the artificial stream so that it hit mom on her head. Well that didn't last long!! Personally, I would have creamed him!! She just picked him up and without disturbing the nursing infant, carried him off ..... BOY, I'll bet he got a lickin when he got home .....
Sorry ...I do go on!
I will try to get some of the snaps of the new insect carousel for you ....so you can see it! when I mentioned an insect carousel to Richie, he thought it was some kind of flea circus thing .... oh well .... :bonk:

Hey there everybody, I have'nt been around much, been crafting like crazy on stuff other than photography.
Nice to meet you Bella, your photographs are stunning. Your composition is very effective. DId you use a macro setting for the flowers and insect?
Liz, your daffodils are coming along nicely. Do you have any idea how long they will take to start blooming? And your to question on the cyclones in Queensland, I am in the south of OZ so they didn't bother and although Martha is up there they were much further north. Its been horrible but glad to say, that so there have been no fatalities.
I had to laugh when Sharon said it was too cold for shopping. I couldn't believe my eyes...glad that yo have come to your senses Sharon!
We cover the globe on this site don't we?....from the far north to where I am down south.
Janie, as always your shots are wonderful. I am positive that you could sell them. As far as a name for your flower, it looks like a Teatree blossom to me?
Now I can't remember if I told anybody but we finally got our new digital camera! Yahoo! Alas, I haven't had much time to use it but on the first day I took these shots. We had talked about 'stitching' earlier and this camera has the facility. So the first pic is of my the closed in part of my front yard...not a very inspiring subject but it was fun to stitch the pics.
With the second one.I used the
macro setting, something which I have never had before then I utilized the editing program to produce this effect.

Hi Rosalie,
I love the wiiiiide shot of your yard! I had never heard of stitching as it refers to photography. Very interesting! Do you have a special setting on the camera? I have a pretty nice camera, but really haven't used it much yet
...it's still new. I usually wind up using my little pocket digital. So much of my older important "stuff" is still in the form of prints or slides (yes I'm that old)
Years past I was a big walker and would hike the zoo grounds or the local preserves, but can't walk well and unless my sweetie wheels me, I don't get out with camera much. Hmmmm...I think I need to get off the pity pot and do some artistic work right here at home eh?
Oh I love the flower photo with the effect you used. Very nice! That would look brilliant as a framed print!!
Liz
Rosalie
03-23-2006, 12:15 PM
Yes Liz, the camera has a 'stitch' setting. I was very pleased to see that when his lordship brought it home, considering hes not into photography at all really. But he is taking it on an overseas trip in Sept and wanted to buy it himself.
I was thinking myself about that flower pic.... it would make an intersting cross stitch. I have a program that will turn any image into a pattern. And, I am closer to your age than I am to anyone else here LOL
So I remember the 'olden days too' Like imperial measurements and pounds, shillings and pence! :biglaugh: And using nibs and inkwells at school!
quiltz
03-23-2006, 12:39 PM
Hi Rosalie,
Oh I remember the "dip the pen in the inkwell" thing too!! We graduated to the fountain pen and then to the cartridge pen after that. I'm sure that some of the boys still have blue hands. Joe Wills used to suck on his pen and so had a blue mouth too! By the time I was in 7th grade, the ballpoint pen was around but the sisters wouldn't let us use them. We used to joke that they were the work of the devil and would ruin our handwritings for life, as if we cared at that age!! Liz
Rosalie
03-23-2006, 12:45 PM
Oh My! :biglaugh: I was just thinking the exact same things. Fountain pen then the cartridge things...I still have one! And the nuns...yes! 'You won't learn to write properly with those biro things!'...work of the devil indeed! :biglaugh:
John Henry used to pierce the warts on his hand with the inky nib....he reckoned it would get rid of them.....just gave him a permanently tatooed hand...Hahhahhhaaa.
And fortunately I wasn't allowed to have long hair but the girls who did were constantly getting their pig tails dipped in the ink by the boys who sat behind!
Ronnie Matthews....heard he ended up in gaol. Oops!

Janie...You asked about the kitchen redo. The floor tiles are in. The counter top is installed. All the new appliances are installed. The new pantry is still in flux. Some of the cabinets are installed. The dry wall is in but the walls are not painted. I have a multi colored pantry, now.
I was going to try to post some before pics a few days ago, but things kinda took off on their own around here and never got around to it. Maybe this next week. Who knows??????? I will get Hubby to take some pics of the way things look now, also. Then I will post them together. Soon, I promise.
Yes, ladies, that's right. The secret is out. It's the Hubby who is the photo taker in this family. I also was going to post some of our pics from our trip to Kabul, Afghanistan, but I seem to have lost them. They were in a file on my computer. When I went in to pick some out...GONE!!!! Hubby has them on his, so all is not lost.

I know I've said it before but it must be an amazing transformation to your gardens when all the green starts to shoot.
Drivinghome fromthe airport this morning (hubby has gone awasy for a week),looking at the trees and gardens, I thought I should post a few photos showing my area in summer and then winter. But I realized that except for a few imported trees here and there, it would look the same...How boring!

04-01-2006, 02:45 PM
Hi Rosalie,
I was also pretty happy to see the daffs ....finally!! For awhile, I thought maybe they'd decided not to open this year.
I think I appreciate the early bulbs even more because they show up when everything else is still underground! I hope I have the energy, or whatever it takes to do the garden this year .... especially since I need to grow some low acid tomatoes. I usually put self watering planters along the edge of the driveway and do all my veggies over there. I have such a miniscule garden that I have to take advantage of every square inch!! I think I may try some exotic peppers too ... as long as they're not hot, I should tolerate them.
I love to see all the photos of the beautiful tropical plants here online. No, they're never boring! It's so much fun to see where everyone else lives and what they see every day.
for those of you who need to ... don't forget to

Hey girlies!!! I finally have a chance to have a peek! I was doing some "Spring Cleaning" this weekend, as the in-laws will be there for the day on Thursday, and figured get it done while I have the chance, instead of after work.... Oh Liz, I love love love the daffs!! I can't wait til mine show up - they are mid to late springers, so it's a bit of time yet... I really should have planned better when I planted daff bulbs, lol, stagger early, mids and lates for color all spring...but, I was a novice when I planted them, lol.
Lotus, I love your photos! How fun!!! The Where's Jon cracked me up! A friend of mine threw an anniversary party for her Mom and Dad, and her mom decided she wasn't going - very strange, lol, but anyway, the guests used 2 paper bags, cut out eyes and drew faces on them to represent her Mom and Dad, and then the guest randomly wore them while people snapped pictures, it was hilarious!!!! ;)
Well, today there is nothing picture worthy out there... April showers, better bring May flowers or I am going to have to write a strongly worded letter to Mother Nature!

Hi again,
Tracey,
Here are a few more of the daffs ...these are my mid season flowers while the standard yellows are the early season. The tiny little ones are in my mini garden and the flower is smaller than the tip of my little finger. They're so cute!
Anyway, for anyone who is tired of the "daff watch" this will be the last of them ....or at least until tulip season comes!!
Just "click" the thumbnail and you'll get to see the bigger photo!

Oh I LOVE "Daff Watch"!! Especially since there's no girsl bouncing around in bathing suits, lol.
I also love the idea of a mini garden!! I might have to plan one out this coming fall!!! I am ready for the tulips as well..... Bring em on!! :)

Ok..here's some more pics of mine....these were taken when we went camping - the one of all green is actually a meadow where the deer hang out. It was SO cool to look at it, it was swaying in the breeze and was making me quite ill to look at it LOL! Enjoy!

:) Hi Rosalie, thanks for your words on the bottle brush, I took that photo without a flash, and I had it on the bit where it allows to take pics close up without it blurring the image, I have lost my instruction book that came with the camera, so I'm just fiddling with the camera and finding out new things I can do.

Aha Martha!!
I've always felt that learning without the book was the best way to go!!
This way the camera never gets old ....because you always keep discovering new things you can do with it! LOL ....
Seriously, I've done some of my best work by happy accidents! In quilting we don't call them mistakes ... but design opportunities! May be it works the same with photos ...
Love the latest photos! Liz

Hi Martha,
Me again ... I cut myself off before I mentioned how much I like the plants tutorial! Are most of those native plants to Australia? I am familiar with the bottle brush flower ....but was already aware that it was an import for us here. The only other one I know is the salvia. We have daisy here but not (I don't think) rock daisy.
You could make a beautiful album for yourself of your garden each month as each plant is in flower. Since "daff watch" I thought about it myself ....just one good representative shot of each kind of flowering plant I have here. At least my little sister, who is transplanted to Florida would love it, because these are the flowers she grew up with and she misses now!

:) thanks Liz, The bottle brush is one of our natives, the salvia and the rockdaisies are I think pretty common everywhere, I love the rockdaisies because they soften places like rocks,.. hence the name, I used too have red salvia's too but they all died down, they look beautiful together with the blue ones, the album is a good idea, if only I could get my colour printer to work :cussing: gggrrrrr, we put new ink in yesterday, but somehow it only prints pink, maybe I need a new cartridge!

OOOOh terrific shots Bella! I am quite envious....lol ;)
Martha, you cracked me up with the camera instruction booklet thing - I have had my camera for probably close to 5 years now, and this past fall I finally figured out I had a macro setting!! (the up close and personal shots, lol) I felt like a goof when one of my online photog buddies told me that most digitals have macro. I said, well, nope not mine! He asked me what camera I had, what model etc. And went on a search. Found the manual online somewhere and told me exactly what the little "flower" button was for!!! LMAO!! I was so embarrassed!!! But, now I can't wait for flowers so I can get some macro shots, I am so excited! Boy, I sure could have used it last summer, between the monarch butterflies and this really cool and gorgeous PINK dragonfly on my hubby's beebalm, it was iridescent and just pretty - for a bug. LOL
I hope in the morning to be able to upload some shots to flickr, I just ran out of time tonight, lol. But hopefully in the morning! :)

And Liz, the flower by month idea is what I have been working on for two years now, lol. (two years because I thought I wiped out my disk that had a years worth on it, but a friend pointed me in the direction of some software and I was able to retrieve them! :woohoo: ) But, anyhoo, I have shots from early spring, when they are just green, the buds before they bloom then when they bloom. I almost have everyone documented... I plan to do a garden scrapbook..... ;)

It's funny, cause another shutterbug friend asked me if I would be interested in getting a table with her at the HUGE craft show that our town hosts every Labor Day weekend (I quit going to it years ago, it's just gotten TOO large and annoying, lol), and sell our photos. I am still debating... LMAO!!! And thank you for the fabulous compliment!!! ;)

Yep, mine looks like a tulip as well. And when it's in that mode, the little tulipy guy shows up on my screen too...
Oh yes, I agree Martha, any excuse (whether valid or not, lol) to get a new camera is always the thing to do!! LMAO! Oh yes once again, Martha, once you have it, you can't believe you lived without it...lmao, I have YET to use mine!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

traceann
04-04-2006, 04:11 PM
Honestly Martha, I don't know as these particular Upper Penninsula shots (all of them in fact) were taken using my Minolta SLR, not my digital. I used to keep records of what I did or didn't do, but I got soooo behind in developing them all that it got lost in the shuffle. I still have over 15 (more or less) rolls of film to get developed...thank goodness for my digital with the way I like to snap pictures!! I really do have to get my regular camera out again, that is fun to play with as well...all kinds of settings and stuff I STILL haven't figured out!! LMAO!!!! :)
I am toying with the idea of going in on the table with my friend at the craft fair, I just don't think I could be ready in time, I suggested to her maybe I'd try for the summer after this one, lots of time...Oh I don't know! LMAO! Decisions decisions....hee hee hee But the lure of more craft supplies is intoxicating..... ;) Oops, I think that's actually the lure of my bed calling me....LOL!!! :)

Flamin' heck! I miss a day and you lot go crazy with the most beautiful photos. I was making mental notes of what to say to each of you but there are soooooo many that now I'm just gobsmacked!
I'm in the middle of an amazing storm here this afternoon. The rain is just sheeting down and the wind is making me very conscious of my huge gum in the front yard!
David is away and has taken the new camera Grrrrrrrrrr! other wise I would take some pics of the wild weather outside. And Buggar! I have to go out into it in a few minutes....if you don't hear from me for a while please send the coast guard to Tassie to look for me!

Oh goodness Ro!!! I do hope you were careful!! Storms freak me out to no end...I don't mind garden variety thunderstorms, but when the wind gets whipping, I get spooked!!! I immediately think "Tornado! ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH! Take cover take cover!!"
It was really funny - when I had all my kitties alive and well (total 6), everytime there was a tornado watch, I would put them all in the garage (it's a walk-out garage under the house, so basically a seperate room fromt he basement. I put them there, cause the basement doesn't have a door, and they could just run right back up). But it was quite a production, one cat at a time....down the stairs, up the stairs, down the stairs up the stairs, lol. Then as I'd be wrangling another one into the garage, another one would try to make a break for it, oh they kept me hopping!!!! ;)

Ok, now that you found it, when you put it in that mode you can take your extreme close-ups without the blur, but it still has a focal breaking point, lol. I think if I get any closer than 6 inches(?) it's back to blur....so, just experiment! :)

Oh Bella, those are GREAT!!!!!! I love the rainbow, how very very cool!! The fawn is just the cutest thing!! I have been tempted to go to the craft show....but I don't know....I want to get myself a printer just for photos. HP and Epson make some kick-a$$ printers for photos. I want the Epson that prints in a 12x12 format if you like - but it's close to 800 bucks, lol. But they have others, as well as HP and both of their inks are archival quality - Epson will last 100yrs + and HP is 73yrs + So, you can guess what I will be hunting for and saving for!!!
I will have to dig up some of my flower pics, and get them uploaded...maybe get that done tonight, lol. Now that I know about my "flower tulipy thingie" I can take bug pictures...but pray they don't fly at me or the camera is going for a fling - the neighbors already think I am nuts when I run around the yard waving my arms as I am being chased by a bug, lol. Yeah, the bug-chase is just my excuse...LMAO!!!

Nice flowers Ro! Karma, we were camping and went to the lodge - out in front of it is this huge meadow - saw the rangers looking at something and we were all about 100 feet away or so...watched the fawn being born..then momma cleaned it up quickly. Some bratty kids went screaming *grrrr* and scared off the momma - so the baby just layed there in the high grass while mom hid behind some thickets. Rangers chased everyone off but I asked before they did if I could - from a distance and using my zoom on my camera, snap a quick picture - and they let me! Was so amazing though....welcoming life into the world :D

I think most of us Patricia use Flickr to "host" our pics. You upload your pictures to their site (it's really easy) and then the site generates "Urls" for them. To post them, you go advanced, and you will see a button that looks like a mountain. You click on that, and insert the url that Flickr has for you. Once you click ok on that little window that pops up, it should insert it as an "IMG" in your post and we should be able to see it!! ;) Once you get your pics uploaded to them, then if you click on one of your individual pics, it will take to you to a page with just that pic. Along the top, there are buttons for options, I choose the "all sizes" (or something like that) tab, it takes you to another page where you can choose the size. I always use "small", so I click on that, it takes me to another page for the small pic and right under it a little ways down will be the url you need to use!!! If you get stuck, I know we can help!!! ;)
Oh Bella, don't you just hate kids like that? GRRRRR!!! Poor baby deer and Momma!

We had a really nice program this morning which showed a lot of native Australian plants, mostly flowering. They have a program in Southern California where they are growing a lot of these newer (to us) varieties of Australian plants. I believe it was in San Clemente ....but not sure ...will check later.
ANYway, they are checking to see how they grow under our conditions and if they would be appropriate for different climate conditions in the states. They showed how they had to burn and douse some of the seed heads to get the seeds out to simulate brush fires and rain conditions. It was really interesting and I did see a few of the plants we've been priviledged to see here lately on photog board.
Some of the plants were being watched carefully to insure that they wouldn't become weedlike and spread to the detriment of our own natives like so many plants do. Very nice ....

Liz I know what you mean, some plants can become weedlike, and one has to be very careful and do research before releasing any new plant or tree, particular in a country that is not native to them.

Heh, I learned my lesson on "Invasive Plants", lol. Oregano. That stuff took over my whole flower garden 2-3 years ago, Jeremy and I ripped in all out, it was quite a job! But, I learned a lesson, just like with Mint, if they say it can get out of control, it will!! LMAO!!!!!
Lily sounds like my kitty Missy, she sits and looks out the front doors, and heaven help any cat that wanders into the yard, holy moly. She goes NUTS!! LMAO!!! It's quite humorous really - I don't think she's figured out she can't get to them.....

Aha!! My neighbor's gardner (just the guy who cuts the grass actually)
planted some grass seed last year like they do here every spring to sort of "zip up" the lawn. Well, turns out it's the dreaded Bermuda grass....which grows exactly like mini bamboo. It sends out runners which creep under my fence and now my flower bed has Bermuda grass which is a real nightmare to remove!! It's almost impossible for me to pull it out and it uproots anything else I have growing there. I spoke to her and she just looks at me like I'm speaking a foreign language.
I've been so cranky about it and was at a loss as to what to plant that wouldn't wind up being killed as I tried to uproot that blasted runner system. grrrrrrrrrr ....Well late last year ..... I planted mint alllll along the fence. 3 varieties ....black mint and spearmint and peppermint. It's coming up quite nicely now that it's spring and I'll bet it gives that grass a "runner" for its money heh heh heh .... (evil laugh)
I know .... not nice .... Liz

04-09-2006, 06:38 AM
LMAO!! Oh that's funny!! If that doesn't work, sink some kind of lawn edging into the soil along the fence line, to act as a barrier to that nasty old grass!! That might work! Just watch the mint...oh my. That's another one that choked out my flower beds right along with the oregano - but they never choked each other, lmao!!!!! I should have listend when I read to plant the mint in containers sunk in the ground to control it....oregano too... The oregan even invaded what little l lawn I have. I teased that I was starting a new trend - the Mediterranean Lawn, sure does smell nice when it's cut though..... I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. At least it's green..... LMAO!

Hey Martha, love the new pics. You're getting very artistic with the fern shot.
It that a Grevillia Longistyla? The blooms look a bit longer than the one I have but it is my favourite native plant. They look like gorgeous pink spiders nestling in the bush.
David's is home form Qld so now I can get my hands on the new camera again.

:) thanks Rosalie, I love that grevillia, unfortunately I can't remember the name, the tag is probleby still attached to the tree but it has grown so big it would be hard to find, also I love treeferns and it looked so pretty with the early morning sun I just had to take a photo, it is tall enough for me to stand under to take that photo,
Go and grab that camera of David, and hide it Ro, hahaaaa, I'm looking forward to seeing some more of your photo's!

:) thanks Liz,.... this is a pic of my son wearing his new ''phat pants'' he ordered that one over the net, and they made it especially the way he wanted it, he got it in the mail last monday, it came from malaysia, cost him $230.00 dollar, too much money I think but he works for it so it's his choice really! they wear those pants in ''raves'' he goes to, dancing non-stop all night, anyway here is the pic,

Hi Diana!!!!!!! Glad to see you!!!!! ;)
Oh Martha, I agree with Liz, she just gets prettier!!! And that is a GREAT photo you took of her as well.... And the pants, well what can ya say, lol. They certainly are flashy, lol. I fear I am getting old myself, I had no idea there were such items!! LMAO!! Lily looks a bit wary of them....LMAO!!!
Ugh, of course it's raining out there today, so no chances for green pictures....grrr. But I did see a few blades of green grass AND my chives are coming along!! Hooray!!!!

Tracey, too bad you couldn't get a pic of any green stuff, but hey a pic of the chives will do, haha, indeed lily wasn't too impressed with Tim's new pants, she usually barks at anything new, LOL

Oh that's a drag he didn't pass!! But, it's not like he failed miserably - when can he take it again??
Ooooh I know you said it's an ornamental, but can it be used in cooking? We brought our little one in for the winter - won't survive in the cold - and I am anxious to get her back out, she's looking a little spindly...LOL All it did was rain rain rain today, am hoping tomorrow to play with my camera, I need some self-portraits to work with for my "me" scrapbook someday. So, hope to get outside too...now I just have to find where hubby put my tripod...ugh....
quiltz
04-12-2006, 04:19 PM
Hi Tracey,
I've got a nice tripod here that Richie gave me ....I'll run it on over to your place sometime tomorrow, OK?
Wouldn't that be nice? Oh well ....this is the next best thing, being able to swap photos and little bits of our daily lives every so often.
I've got that hibiscus "bush" here in my bedroom and should get it out while it's still pretty mild. Since she's been living in a heated house all winter ..... waiting til it gets really warm out might fry her! I have so much stuff to do outdoors and I keep hoping to feel better soon ....much better!!
At least the fellows were here to put in the new water heater today so we had blessed hot water for me to soak my bum ....oh and to wash those dishes. I was never much for camping and I think washing dishes in cold water might be one reason! LOL
I love the ornamental rosemary ..... beautiful flowers on it! Could it be used or is it only for ornamental purposes?? It sure is pretty ... so who cares if you can't stuff it into a chicken anyway!!
"see" you all soon ;) , Liz
MarthaB
04-12-2006, 08:09 PM

WOO HOO Sunny sunny day!!!!!!! :)
Oh yes, Liz let me know what time you plan on arriving and I will have a nice pot of herb tea waiting!!! I agree, it would be so much fun, I fear though that the population better watch out if we all did get together - yikes!!!! Oh hot water, always a good thing! The element on ours went out about a year or so ago -of course when Jer and I weren't home, and my poor mom was here, lol. Doing dishes in cold water bites. When I camped there was always a big pot of water on the stove for heating!!! (we had a water heater, but small so I saved that for showers, LOL - gotta love travel trailers!!)
Huh, only ornamental, that's crazy!! LOL, she looks just like mine too - well, mine hasn't flowered yet, she's still a baby....hee hee!! :)

I just LOVE the first shot of the four ...... looks as if she's saying," You're kidding right?" .....sooooo funny!! She looks like a real character ...is she really as funny as all that??
Talbot (lap cat) now has a funny habit, though I've never been fast enough to photograph it ....If I get mushy and say, "Oh mommy's sweet baby awwww" ....he sticks out his tongue at me .... Never knew cats did that.
Regarding those amazing pants, I haven't seen anything like that around here yet. Am I right in assuming that you folks get the styles from the Brits ....before we in the states ever see them? I know it was true years ago that in London they were a good year ahead of us here in New York area....
Liz

04-13-2006, 06:52 PM
:) yes she really is a character, never a dull moment!!, yes Ro she is probleby looking at me laughing her head off, hhmmm wonder if I was wearing something funny, haha
In the first photo it looks as if she is thinking '' don't come any closer with that camera because i've had enough'' haha
Liz, the dj's playing at those Raves my son goes to all come from Brittain and Holland, but according to my son they only wear them in australia, malaysia and the uk. There aren't many DJ's in the USA.
quiltz
04-14-2006, 03:06 AM
Ahhhh ....but we do have lots of DJ's!!! It's just that there's a whole different scene at one of "our" raves .....
Actually I haven't been to a club of that nature in quite a few years. I was more of a folk singer in my youth. We worked in Greenwich Village and in some other places in the city. Of course most of the ravers hadn't even been born yet!!
memories ....memories ..... LOL!! Liz, who feels older by the minute ...

<laughing here>----Martha, do you think the US is that far behind in the music scene? :biglaugh:
And like Liz said, the raves here in the US are a whole 'nother scene; one that my child better never be caught attending...yikes!.......Whats the scene like across the pond?

04-14-2006, 10:41 AM
Oh Martha, I love those pictures of Lily!! They are SOOOOOOOO cute, again, I want to give that furry little face a big ol smooch!! :)
Oh yeah, over here I always thought raves were not such a good scene.....
MarthaB
04-14-2006, 12:24 PM
:) Yeah well maybe he's wrong about the DJ's in the US, I don't know, I don't know too much about the raves, all I know is that I trust my son, he doesn't do drugs, he doesn't even smoke, I think one has to have a certain amount of trust in your children, I have observed his behaviour when he returns of these raves, and he is like he is always is ''no difference'', if he ever crosses that line we deal with it then, but in the mean time he is having fun, besides he turns 18 in june, legally I cannot stop him from going anywhere.
Tracey, I will give Lily a smooch for you! haha

04-14-2006, 02:17 PM
Oh thank you Martha!!!! Give her two and a hug while you are at it!! Hee hee hee! ;)
Oh yes, I am sure just as we have the 'cookies/biscuits' difference, lol, raves are most likely different too!! :) Sounds to me like you got a GREAT son there Martha! Nice work and good job - he's lucky to have you ;) Yup, we do have lots of DJ's at most dance clubs/night clubs etc that's the entertainment...quite popular!! Um, that is if we mean the same thing, LMAO!!!! Our DJ's play music for the crowd.... Ah couldn't resist after the cookie/biscuit thing.... ;)
dg2901
04-14-2006, 04:41 PM
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: How long ago was the "cookie/biscuit" difference discussion?.tomato sauce/ketchup?...vegemite/marmite?...peanut paste/peanut butter?....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, memories...or maybe that would be flashback?...gotta love it regardless!... :help: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Martha, please dont get defensive over my comment about "raves". I was just stating what we know here in the US about what goes on at "raves", i personally wouldnt allow my son to attend--thank goodness he's not into that kind of music, so fortunately its not an issue in my home. I was in no way implying that your son does anything wrong, nor was I contradicting the "trust" that you have in him......sorry if anything was misconstrued.
*footnote--my nephew is a parttime DJ.... :)

:) I am not offended at all, I do realise that there is drugtaking going on, and I had the talk with Tim about all that stuff,.... I had a similar talk with him when he was at highschool, and he said that he was offered drugs and always declined, ....the thing is we may not always like where our kids hang out, but we cannot follow them 24/7 and when they are at a legal age, there really isn't much anybody can do!
Diana, your son will go through many changes before he turns 18, my son is totally different in his likes and dislikes now compared to 3 years ago, even music wise.
Thanks Tracey, he's a pretty good kid, I have to say both my kids have never given me much trouble, I am pretty lucky I think!

I'm glad you finally had success DG!
Very nice photos ....LOVE the robin and eggs especially. Where is she nesting? Looks sort of like the AC casing or something like that! Very nice yard too .... plenty of room. You would laugh to see my tiny bit of land ...
Now that it's warmed up here, everything is bursting and green! We had temps in the 80's today but I never got to the camera. I was playing with my machine quilting, at least til pain told me to get off my feet!!
Have a happy holiday everyone, whatever your persuasion!! We're going to my sister's ( about 1 and 1/2 hour drive) for Easter dinner .... only with the understanding that if we get half way there, that I have the option to have him turn around to go back home again. It's the "I.C. guarantee"!! hee hee .... Never can be sure what traffic will do to that drive and I would rather turn back than suffer for any extended time.

Liz, first off thanks for the comments. I was having a time with the pictures sites and getting them to upload today..geee whiz!..hahahaha................The robin has nested in my sons windowsill, and youre corrrect its right near his AC unit. She's been there for about 2 weeks now. Someone told me its about a 28 days incubation--does anyone know for sure? That picture I posted today of robin (i've taken several over the last week) I was standing less than 3 feet away from her. She didnt get mad until after my 3rd photograph..ahaha..................Oh, and regarding the yard..yeah its huge!...I'd gladly trade you for your smaller yard--well Kevin/Kenneth would trade you since theyre the ones that do the mowing..hahaha.....Youre in/around NYC, correct?

We just got in from our drive from out east for Easter ..... not too bad but a bit of traffic the last 10 miles or so. Yes, I'm just outside NYC and I guess that's why we have BIG traffic sometimes on Long Island. It was a nice time, food excellent, but I get antsy and was ready to go home pretty quickly. Liz, its good that you can report a happy time at your sisters (?) house. Its nice when we can actually go somewhere w/o too much interference from our darn bladders!..So youre on Long Island. I've never been up that way, however it sounds nice--other than the billions of people and the awful traffic. Do you ever use the subway? Re: the Outback Steakhouse; we hadnt been there for several years. We're not much into the chain restaurant scene. I thought though since we were looking for something quick and it was getting late that why not take the camera along, go to the Outback and let our friends from AUS enjoy the view..hahahaha..I'm happy to report that we had no run-ins with any kangaroo's, wombats, redneck wallaby's, or crocs! :woohoo: :biglaugh:

Got the flower beds cleaned out yesterday, so hoping either today (but the inlaws will be up and we are going out to dinner, so that might nix that plan...ugh) or tomorrow to get some shots of the Green Things!! Hey Tracey--when are we gonna see these self portraits you've taken???????? Did you take them with a tripod and timer? Of did you have someone take them for you? Come on, let us see..
I vote that it would be a good idea to start a Part 2 of this thread since it's gotten so incredibly long...Is this something you would have to do Tracey or is it just a matter of starting a new thread as normal?
Pretty blue plant, Martha.

This is the groundcover (the blue one) and is a perennial here in NY ....the colored ones (pink, white and red, not blue) are annuals and I will plant them here as soon as the ground is warm enough.
I THINK anyway ..... so take it for what it's worth!! LOL! :flower: :flower: :flower: :flower:
Liz
PS:Yours has a different shape flower .... so I guess we keep looking eh??
