Night by Elie Wiesel

This is a very small book and one man's accounting of his youth at Auschwitz and other camps. It is a more recent translation of a long ago book originally penned in French. It is so compelling and should be a must read for all!

It is not a new story, but is written with such insight and one the author seems to be even troubled to share. I highly recommend it and look forward to the discussion later in February on Oprah. It is disturbing to me that we learned so little of this in our history classes - I certainly hope the curriculum is more honest 30+ years later.

Marley and Me by John Grogan

I am also reading this and it is a delightful "memoir" of a family dog and how he came to endear himself to his family...so far it is full of laughs and would touch any dog lover for sure.

I have about 5 others started, will let you know if I make progress! :)

My last comment, when flaring or in pain...try a nice warm heating pad and a good book, it is an awesome escape! ;)

I only now found your thread Betsie and thought you might be interested to know that 'Night' is one of the books on the schools study list for year 12. My son studied it 2002 and it is still on the curriculum.
As a 17yr old at the time, it was quite a forceful book. As I read some of his SAC essays it hit me just how much he had taken the book to heart. Another book he read in that years study was 'The Things They Carried' which had a deep effect on him as well.
