Hi,
I have an appointment tomorrow for cysto,CMG, the uro said that it means going into the bladder with a camera and not to worry. But he didnt really explain the procedure, and now I am getting very nervous because I dont know what to expect. Also I dont know what a CMG is? Is that part of the cystoscopy?

I dont want to do anything that could make my IC worse, he is not sure that I have IC and that is why he wants to do this procedure, however my family doctor is confident that I do have IC... If anyone could offer an explanation of what is going to happen tomorrow, and are there any risks?
I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi Toronto and :welcome: . Are you doing the cysto/with hydro or the plain cysto in the doctors office? If you are doing the one in the office it will not diagnose IC. It is used to look in the bladder and urniary tract for abnormalities or obstu. such as bladder stones and tumors.

Also the CMG is a cystometrogram. It is a test used to evaluate the bladders ability to store and release urnie. It uses a device to pump water into bladder. The device then measures the amount of fluid that goes into the bladder when you first feel desire to void, when you are able to sense fullness and when your bladder is completely full.

I did have this done when I had a in office cysto. While the in office cysto is uncomfortable it is not really bad. I hope things go well for you.

Both tests are part of the process of making a diagnosis. While neither will diagnose IC, they can be important as a part of the ruling out of other causes for your pain. The cystometrogram will test muscle tone of your bladder, as well as capacity.

Both are uncomfortable, but not horrible.

thank you for writing me back, they are doing this test in the hospital, and he said it will be him and his nursing team (great a whole team)

All he told me was about the cystoscopy, he never explained anything about the CMG which kind of upsets me, because I think he should have explained it and made sure I was comfortable with this procedure. The only reason I know they are doing it, is because it says "cysto,CMG" on the appointment paper he gave me.

The first time I saw this urologist he put me on detrol and told me to come back in a month, he also mentioned the famous line that "I might want to see a psychiatrist" because stress affects the body and that could be causing my symptoms. but the only reason I am under stress is because I have been suffering and noone could tell me what was wrong with me. Anyway, I am not comfortable with this urologist, he always treats me like he does not have the time for me, and I am really worried about this procedure tomorrow, do you think I should cancel? Is this the only way to officially diagnose IC?

About the CMG, does that mean you have to pee infront of everyone, did you find anything painful? Do you think it is a good idea?

sorry for all the questions, but I am just really scared

If you are not comfortable with your uro you can go and get a second opinion. The cysto and CMG are a good idea just to check everything out. Most paitent's with IC have gone through these test themselves at one point or another. A cysto alone will not diagnose IC. You must have the cysto with hydro done under sedation in a OR done. You can also get a PST (postassium senstestivy test) done to diagnose IC. This is done in the uro's office. The insert 2 different solution into the bladder at seperate times. One is water the other is potassium. The usually will not tell which is which. If you have IC your bladder will react to the potassium. The immed. drain it and usually insert numbing meds to help with the bladder pain. I had the PST test done first then a cysto/hydro done just to confirm the diagnoses.

The catheter might be little irritating. When I had my CMG the nurses left the room give me some privacy. It didn’t hurt just weird with the wires.

Maybe I would feel more comfortable if I had a urologist that I liked. I have anxiety even when I go for regular check ups with him because he has absolutely no bed side manor. I am nervous about the procedure but also about the way I will be treated, I dont feel like he treats me as a person. Does anyone know of a good urologist in the Toronto area? I think I would like to see somebody else. I dont think my urologist even really believes in IC.

Do they give you something for the pain before the surgery? or do they just freeze that area? How about the pain afterwards? When do you find out the results?

Thanks everyone, it is so much better to hear from people who have actually gone through it, I dont feel so alone.
