I'm still feeling very sore and achey from my hydro on Thursday. I felt fine for the first 24 hours, then it got bad. Is this normal. There isn't burning or urethral pain, just aching. I feel very tired and I'm moving slowly. I slept 9 hours last night, and about 3-4 this afternoon (took 1/2 an Ativan to help).

What is the best way to treat this? Just rest? Or should I try starting Atarax or potassium citrate? Do I treat it like a flare? I'm trying to eat only basic foods. I have Atarax but I hate taking them. Even just 10 mgs at bedtime leaves me feeling really dopey and "flat" for the next day, until late afternoon. Basically I feel really apathetic, and if that goes on for days I feel depressed.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you feel suddenly worse or spike a fever, call your doctor. It's somewhat common for patients to develop a UTI after the procedure and it's important to act on it quickly. So, any doubt at all, call your doctor.

That said... rest is always good after a major procedure. Yes, this was a MAJOR procedure for your tender bladder and you will have take some time for a proper recovery so please don't push yourself too much.

You might find that using a heating pad can be very helpful. Of course, pain medication can be helpful if the pain is bad. Muscle relaxants can help muscle spasms. The hydroxyzine (Atarax) can help with sleep at night.

Yes, it really is a flare... as your bladder has been traumatized by the procedure... so use all of your IC tool kit ideas! Check our patient handbook online for some flare management ideas.

I don't have anything to add to the advice given you by Jill, but did want to say that I encourage you to get in touch with your doctor to check for infection.

Sending healing thoughts,

Getting over a hydro varies from person to person. Some it can take a couple days to feel better. But like Jill and Donna said people can get a UTI after this procedure. I got one after my second one. So if you are not feeling better by Monday go in and have your urine checked.
