One of the things that I love about my job is the chance to meet so many unique, special patients both on our website and in our offices! Octavia is a perfect example of IC patient who breaks the stereotype of IC being a disease of post menopausal. She's young (in her 20's), vivacious, very smart, independent and loves tattoos! It's her thing and she does it well!
She's struggled with IC for many years and her friends gave her a nickname, the Lady of the Lake because she spent so much time in restrooms. That gave inspiration to one of the most beautiful pieces of body art that I've ever seen! She showed this to me today and it just blew me away... so I had to send it to you too!
Check out this gorgeous tattoo! Remember, not everyone has to like tattoos.. I don't have any. But, I just have to respect the fact that she is trying to create art... and has done it spectacularly!
Jill :)

That is absolutely awesome artwork for sure. I love art. I do not have tattoos but
I think this is really neat and so pretty. Art is art.
I am Dusty by the way..our computer crashed and we lost everything. I had to log
in new so I did and I put my name which is Shar. So I am now Shars..still Dusty though.
I think this is so pretty.
Thanks for sharing it.

I have to say that is one AWESOME tatoo! It is truly beautiful body art. That being said, as an IC patient I would have to worry about how some of the dyes in that ink might effect a person with IC.
Glad she has found something she enjoys though and something that takes her mind off the disease.

Thats great, I am in the process of finding someone we can trust to do my dog that just passed away on my back. Since he walked beside me every step I took, I want him to always watch my back for me.

I hope she thinks of it as that cool blue water calming her lower abdominal pains...

:) That's a beautiful tattoo Jill, I don't have any, but I have thought about getting a small one someday, my daughter has a small tattoo on her hip, she didn't think it was too painful, she wants another one.

I think the part of the tattoo that is the most symbolic is the fact that she's holding up a sword... i.e. fighting the fight against IC!!!

I too would like to know how long it took. I have five tattoos (one on my right ankle, one on each wrist and two on my right shoulder), and although |I love them I couldn't have sat still for that long (especially as the outlining is the most painful part until the endorphins kick in!)...
An awesome tattoo...

I can't even imagine the pain she must have had in getting such a huge tattoo. It is beautiful, however.

I have 2 tattoo's. A trinity knot on my back just between my shoulders. with my kids names around it. it is to symbolize my kids always being connected, linked forever. They all love it! it hurt but my lamaze worked very well. My 2nd is on my ankle from Hawaii. It is a plumeria flower with leaves. childbirth was more enjoyable :biglaugh: . I am going in for my 3rd. a celtic cross with a rose wrapping around it with my sisters name and dates. she died in october. I think this will be my last!

As soon as my abdominal hyterectomy is over I am having Montana done o nmy back, I figured if I can not kill anyone through a total abdominla hysterectomy, the tattoo guy was in good shape with me around. I will let all know when I get brave and do it.

Just absolutely beautiful! But the pain. I've always wanted one, but never got the nerve to get one.

THAT IS TURELY BEAUTIFUL, NOT TRASHY AT ALL LIKE SOME ARE. THAT IS A WORK OF ART FOR SURE. IT MAKES ME WANT TO GO OUT AND GET ONE TOO. As far as the pain. In my mind IC IS THE WOR5T PAIN EVER AND NOT EVEN A TATTOO CAN MATCH IT. (JUST MY THOUGHTS)

BEAUTIFUL I have a couple of them.. one that was done and cost me majoe bucks was so messed up I wanted cry... well I did actually....
When I was manager at a salon one of my customers was doing the winnie the pooh scene on her back.. She had the tree that was done in 8 different sessions, and each charactor each month.. in total it took her 2 years to have it accomplished.

I have a tattoo on the small of my back. There's no way I could get one on that spot now. I can't even be slightly touched on my lower back now! I didn't think it was all that painful when I got it 10 years ago - certainly nothing like childbirth! If it was that bad then men wouldn't get them!!!! The only part that really hurt was when he went over my spine with the blackwork. I didn't think the color hurt much at all. When it's all done, I would compare it to a skinned knee.
Leslie, that's a great idea for a tattoo! I love it if they have meaning behind them.

I absolutely adore that tattoo.
I just went out and got my first and I was terrified that I would flare.. but i didn't! :D
I think the IC pain definately helped with the tattoo pain =X

That is a beautiful piece of art. I bet it took several sessions. No way they could have done that in one sitting. I have several tatts myself. I don't think I could do anything that big ouch!!!

I am thinking about getting a tattoo....it didn't even cross my mind that it might cause a flare. Why might that be?
