Just responding to your question about the baths...I wondered the same thing, but before I even asked at the hospital, the nurse told me I could take hot baths for pain relief. (If you wanted to be extra careful you could disinfect the tub first) Sorry you are having so much pain with voiding. I'm not having that - the first 3 times were bad, but now it's normal again. I think the more you do, the easier it gets. Oh, and maybe try having a hot shower and peeing in there. Standing makes it a bit easier, as does the hot water.
I'm definately more achey now than earlier, but I'm not taking anything stronger than extra strength Tylenol, and maybe I'll add Ibuprofen too (or is that an irritant for IC - it's hard to remember it all!). The side effects of the stronger ones just make me feel worse.
Well, gotta run. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you Mel. I just took a hot bath and forced myself to go-very painful-but it was only the 1st time I've gone since they made me before they would release me from the hospital. I've discovered the percocet is just making me real goofy and sweaty for a short period then the pain comes right back. I think i'm going to try some of the pyridium that I already have on hand from the uro and see if that helps at all. Thanks for the shower info-I'll definitely try that the next time I have to go! Hope you start to feel better too!

Sorry about the pain you're in! I know from experience how excruciating it can be! Mel has given you some great advice. After my hydro, I would fill a sitz bath with warm water and TRY to go in that, change the water, and then have a good warm soak. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough for me, and I experienced really bad urinary retention that made my belly swell like I was 4 months pregnant and caused a lot of pain and I had to go back into the hospital for a week. Please don't think I'm trying to scare you, it's just that you mentioned that you're haivng trouble urinating. So if you're drinking lots of liquids and your belly starts to swell and you have severe abdominal pain, then please call your doc ASAP. Hope this isn't the case, I just feel it's necessary to let others know that sometimes things can go wrong, and the sooner it's caught, the better. Best wishes. Let us know how you're doing.

PS
I also had the side effects you describe with my pain meds (Tylenol 3) , so I split the tablet for a couple of days, and then was able to increase to a whole one. Doing it that way I didn't experience those weird side effects anymore. Just an idea. Can you do that with percocet? However, as far as the pain, I even tried doubling the dose and it didn't even come close to relieving the pain after my hydro.

Unfortunately I've had to switch back to my usual darvocet that doesn't even touch the pain... I wound up with such an incredibly horrible headache from the percocet and it's starting to creep back up this morning. There's gotta be something stronger that won't give me these impossible headaches. I can handle the loopy thing for 30 mins, at least then I'm laughing lol better than the crying in the fetal position while I bite my pillow from the pain. I just want something to relieve the pain!! I did take someone's advice-can't remember who's it was, but using a spray bottle to cleanse the urethra after the excrutiting razor blade feeling from peeing-the cold water is great! I'm thinking of trying an ice cube next time to numb it up. Do you know if they would prescribe lidocaine gel to a patient to use at home without caths? The heating pad didn't help down there-it made it worse-but it did help with some of the pelvic pain. I read more last night on neurogenic bladders and PFD and it makes a lot of sense to me. I realized that my personal attempts at the muscle contractions isn't the way they should be done and I can't hold it in for 5 seconds at a time. That along with the retention in a large bladder, I'm thinking I need to discuss all that with the Uro, since he made a comment about how retention isn't related to IC and he doesn't have an answer for it. HELLO???? ever heard of PFD doc? I just wish he'd listen to me and prescribe PT where they can show me how to use a TENS and prescribe it to me. I appreciate all the listening and advice so much! I haven't been able to find anyone locally with IC on here, so this is such a great help for me! You guys really all are  s :grouphug:
