Well, I asked my Uro if I can start rescue instills, and he said that's a good idea. I'll be doing:
Marcaine 0.5% (20cc)
Heparin 10,000units (10cc)
Hydrocortisone 100mg (5cc of NSS)
Sodium Bicarbonate48meq (40cc)

Have any of you done this mix? So, is the idea of the instills to put me right into remission? I'm just wondering since it's only once a week for six weeks. I hope it works. Unfortuately, I'll have to drive 50 mintues to the hospital and have it done by a sranger because my Uro doesn't have the supplies in the office, and my insurance doesn't cover the nearby hospitals. I hate that. I think if this doesn't work for me, my Uro will send me off to an IC specialist. I think he's given up on the idea that he can help me. I would love to go...but, I am a very nervous driver. The closest specialist is 2 hours away. Well, hopefully it won't come to that because this will work.

Thanks for listening again!
Jen

Must be something with MDs and insurance companies in the northeast (I see you are from Pennsylvania) My insurance company would only CONSIDER payment if done in the urologists office which is a 1-2 hour drive (in GOOD weather) and even then they had to be sent all of the office's "billing codes" for consideration. Really frustrating, isn't it? All we can do is keep fighting to make our disease a reality to those who still doubt us....

Jen - my rescue instillations don't include hydrocortisone, and they use lidocaine instead of marcaine. Marcaine is supposed to last longer, but my uro won't use it. Hopefully it will put you into remission, but my opinion of the instills is to reduce the inflammation in your bladder. My consult uro just told me once a week isn't enough. She recommends 3 x per week for 3-4 weeks. That's going to be hard on my pocket!!! Hope they work well for you!

My Dr said the rescue were for pain relief and that is just what they do. I don't think there is anything in them that would cause remission. I use the Lidocain too. Wonder what the hydrocortisone is for?

I use heparin and marcaine mixer at home. I don't think this is going to be a quick fix for you or anyone else. Yes granted if gaven enough time it has helped many of us icers. thanks to just the heparin and marcaine i was in remission for a wonderful 18 months granted it took a few months for it to get into my system well and honestly it hurt like heck in the beginning but i stuck it out and it was well worth it.
If you find that these treatments are helping you. I would ask the dr. to give you an rx to do these treatments at home instead of having to drive so far.
I'm back up to doing my installments four times a day (under my uro's advice.) I back off of them for a while but since my bladder is in such bad shape again. I will gladly do them in hopes this is my answers once again.
if you need anything please p.m me i will try my best to help you threw this.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda
