Hi! I was hoping that you all could help me in giving a friend of mine some advice. I know that there are several women on here who have had a bladder prolapse & I was hoping that you could tell me your story. Her doctor is talking about a hysterectomy & a bladder sling. She has no idea what to expect & is really wanting to hear some stories from other's who have had this. Her doctor told her that after the surgery that she won't be able to keep her current job (cleaning houses) because it could cause the prolapse to happen again. Any words, stories, or advice would be a great help to her. Thanks!

I have never had prolapse. I have had a friend who did. She had the hystectomy and the bladder sling. Not in that order though. But she still cleans houses and has done it for several years now with out it bothering her

I have had both and my doctor has not restricted my physical activities. Is she sure the doctor was not talking about the six to eight weeks recovery time? I had to be very careful then.

I had a hysterectomy and A&P (anterior/posterior) repairs done 2.5 years ago. I too was told that after a prolapse surgery that lifetime lifting restrictions would be in order due to the high likelihood of the prolapse recurring. I've followed Dr's orders and even doing so a prolapse has occured yet again. Some women can go forever after having a repair w/o having it happen again while others tend to prolapse over and over--theres no rhyme or reason. The lifting restrictions are put there to help insure it wont happen again. I would think though that as long as your friend isnt doing any heavy lifting or repeated pushing and pulling (as in moving furniture, etc) that she could return to her cleaning job. With that being said only her Dr will know for sure what limitations she should follow post-op.

Good luck to her

I have a sling and I suspect what the doctor may have meant is that she would not be able to life during the healing period of about two months.
