Good luck tommorrow, the pain level depends on the person. Most dr.'s prescribe antibotics and pain meds. if you are worried I would ask the dr. before he does the hydro if he is going to give you anything for afterwards. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

COCO
IF I had to do another cysto/hydro, I would request to stay overnight in the hospital with catheter, or if released that same day I would want to go home with a catheter and foley. You can request a pediatric size catheter if the adult size is uncomfortable. I had bad pain and urinary retention after this procedure. Staying catheterized longer may have prevented the complications that resulted from the retention. Definitely make sure you are given pain meds, and if you have severe pain let the dr know ASAP. Best wishes. I hope all goes well for you. Most people don't have complications, I was just one of the unlucky few!
And if you would like a copy of the bladder pictures, make sure to ask before the surgery and remind the nurse in prep not to let the doctor forget to make an extra copy for you.

And I'm scared too! You're not alone :grouphug:

I've read about one too many bad reactions on these boards and it's freaking me out!

Hopefully we will both be ok...sending you prayers and lots of love,

P.S. PLEASE keep us posted as soon as you're able so we know you're ok! :)

I'll be thinking of you. It's normal to be nervous, but you should be fine. You may have some pain for a few days afterwards, but your doctor will very likely give you something to help if you do.

okay for me that procedure hurt a whole friggin' lot afterwards.
it might depend on the age and size though.
i was only 17 and i weighed nearly 100 lbs. then.
[it was almost a year ago come to think of it]
try to request an IV drip instead of a mask to put you to sleep if your stomach gets sick easily.
i threw up a lot because i made the mistake of not speaking up about that.
this procedure was done to find out if i had this disease.
for me, it only made the symptoms worsen but mine is at the severe state so that could be why.
i only hope the best for you and don't worry too much about it.
i didn't sleep at all before and i regretted it later.
it only makes you more stressed.

Hi Ashley!

I know this post wasn't for me...but i'm having my cysto/hydro tomorrow and wht you said here helps a lot, thanks! *hugs* I will try not to be stressed out and keep busy (a plan I had already but it now sounds like it's a plan I should have for my own sake and healht as well as piece of mind). You sound like a very strong young woman...if you did I believe I can too.

Thanks again!

With love,

Ruchily

Im home, and in sooooo much pain(ended up in the ER last night). Is it normal to have so much blood and blood clots in your urine? I called my uro and the nurse said she didnt know anything about the procedure so she would have to ask someone :bonk: Im so frustrated with my uros staff, he is a great guy but the people who are working for him are horrible! His PA said I shouldnt be having ANY pain and that he has never heard of someone having pain after a hydro... they also had to do a biopsy, so maybe thats why im so sore :loco: sorry to vent, just feeling really frustrated today!

So sorry you are in pain and feeling frustrated.

I can tell you that after one of my hydro's I was peeing blood and blood clots for 2 days. Everyone react's differently to them. Having pain is (I would say) normal after a hydro. Some have said that they had pain for 2 weeks afterwards. I hope your Dr. gave you pain meds. Again...it is an individual thing. Try some heat on it...that helped me.

Thanks! He did give me 10 percocet, so hopefully that will be enough to get me through this! I actually had another question, he said he filled my bladder to 1200cc, is that a lot or is that about average?? thanks for all the help!

1200cc's ( I think) is Excellent...Mine was only able to hold 650cc's!

That is good to know! My uro said I have a "classic" case of IC, whatever that means...He also found some "suspicious" spots that they are biopsing, I dont know whats up with that but im sure everything will be okay!

That is actually alot, mine only held 650 too!! I am concerned he might not have given you enough pain meds for after though. When I had mine done, I believe I was taking meds for close to 2 weeks. But I think mine was worse than some here. It was quite painful. I am sorry you are having so much pain. I hope it gets better soon.

Sorry you’re having so much pain from your surgery.

I am having the same surgery on Feb 14th.
I usually have trouble with all the procedures I have done.
So I’m going to expect the worse.
How server is the pain? I have big bottle of darvocet. Will this be ok?
Or should I get something else planned.
Thanks

Coco
Sorry that you are in pain. I had severe pain after my hydro.
What kind of pain are you having?
What were they able to do for you in the ER?
Hope you're feeling better!

The pain is throughout my entire lower abdomen, it hurts to do most anything, going to the bathroom feels like im giving birth!! Maybe not that bad but it hurts really bad! When I went to the ER they gave mae IV pain medication and than sent me home with a shot of diladid. I feel like such a baby, I just have a hard time dealing with pain, im going to have to get more percocet, I only have a few left and stil not feeling one bit better... YUCK! Would it be helpful to get pyridium, does that help? Thanx!

Hey Coco
I took Pyridium round the clock, as prescribed by my uro, for several weeks after my hydro....it definitely helped to some extent with the burning feeling. I am mainly concerned that you are urinating enough...even if it does hurt when you go, if you are able to go that is good. Urinary retention is what caused my abdominal pain and other complications I had.
