I learned something new from my eye doctor on Friday, Omega 3's (fish oil) helps with tear production & dry eyes. I had a bottle but of course hadn't been consistent with taking it because I didn't think it was working! I'll be taking it daily now:-)

Hope this helps lots of people :woohoo:

It's amazing what the Omega-3's can do - they've done studies showing it also helps tremendously with osteo as well as rheumatoid arthritis, depression, and now Alzheimers.

It's worth it to google Omega-3 oils and see what they are good for!

Blessings,
Lori

it's definitely helping with my arthritis & carpal tunnel too:-) From what I understand those who are doing the research on it are still learning new things about the benefits of it, so I'm sure there are more things it's helping we just haven't heard about them yet!!! I've also heard it helps those who suffer from migranes or headaches too, helps keep the blood flowing.

You know I think there's flax seed oil in something that I take, LOL!! I take so many supplements that sometimes I forget all of what I'm taking but that is okay because it helps me!!

I almost think of the Omega-3 oils as being miracle food. For some reason our bodies just stay so much healthier in so many ways if we include some of those in our diet.

Oh, I wanted to add, too - don't know if anyone here with dry eyes has had their doctor recommend hot compresses to the eyes (I think that's mostly for those of us with ocular rosacea?) but I wanted to pass this tip along just in case there are people here who do hot compresses on their eyes.

My ophthalmologist told me the best way to do hot compresses for the eyes was to heat a small red potato (puncture it in several places first with a knife or fork) in the microwave for one to two minutes (depending on the strength of the microwave, start with one minute first and see if that is hot enough) and then wrap a wet washcloth around the heated hot potato. It fits nicely against the eye socket and keeps the wet washcloth nice and warm for many minutes.

I always had a hard time with that - I'd run a sink of hot water, dip the washcloth, put it against my eye, then within less than a minute it wouldn't be hot enough anymore so I was always dipping, wringing, trying to get it done. But this tip from my doctor made it a million times easier - now I just lie in bed, watch TV with my one eye open while I press the hot potato (wrapped in the wet washcloth) against my other closed eye. Of course you have to be careful not to get it too hot or you'll burn yourself, but if you use common sense there shouldn't be any problem.

Blessings,
Lori

What a great tip...I wonder how it would work cold as well for puffiness...hmmm a frozen potato.....

For puffy eyes, use a sliced cucumber, works well:-) Also, I've taken the Omega 3's "faithfully" since my eye doctor recommended it, my eyes are better now! I hate taking so many darned vitamins & supplements but the benefits of them outweigh my not liking it, LOL!

Tracey, where do you get your flax seed oil? Is it available in pill form by chance? You can e-mail me: jencic@charter.net

I'm too picky for my own good, if it doesn't taste good it generally doesn't go down my throat!!! I'm getting better about that though:-)

I had laser eye surgery this summer which caused my eyes to be even drier than before...the doc recommended flax seed oil, after a few weeks it works! I was taking about 3 capsules three times a day. I stopped when I had to for my allergy shot, and my eyes are certainly drier now!

Hey sweetpea40, it does seem to come along with the IC meds - that's when mine started. I love the flax seed oil and my doc has no problems with me taking it at all. Works great for me!! :)

Hugs,
:)
