Why is Cysto/Hydro called surgery

Just wondering why the Cysto/Hydro is called surgery. They dont cut you. Do they???
Is it becasue they put you to sleep/under in the hospital.
Dumb question I know.

Wow, happy Valentines Day to you, lol. Instead of a gift from the heart you get a gift from the bladder! ;) I would think that it is because of just that, you are under anesthesia, and in the "procedure room" under care of nurses, docs, anesthesiologist etc....And it is an "invasive" procedure, no cutting, but invasive none the less, lol.

I'm guessing it's because of the anesthesia, too...?

Although when I had my first one done, they also took some biopsies from my bladder to confirm it was IC and make sure it wasn't something else. But that wasn't even like real cutting, it was more like they scraped some cells off is all. Even that didn't hardly seem like real surgery to me, either...

It is somewhat invasive, done in the operating room under anesthesia. That would be my guess.

Thanks for your answers. They are doing a biopsie on me too. Plus they will be looking inside my vigial wall real good too. They uro thinks the DR that did my bladder/viginal lift did nerve damage. Not happy with that. But explains all my pain down there.

Good luck with it. I also had RSD in my right ankle. Certainly don't see many people who have had it. I had a surgical sympathectomy and it never returned. Do you have symptoms still?

I have just a little trouble. Nothing like I used. I did wear the wrong lind of shoes yesterday. flared it up a little. But used to take so much pain meds dont need them any more. :woohoo:
One reason got rid of my exhusband with al the stress gone from that, My RSD got better.

Helps a lot I have a super great husband now. I really belive stress can make our pain worse.

I certainly agree with the stress making pain worse...I think it also messes with your coping skills too. What kind of symptoms did you have with your RSD? My foot turned purple, got really cold, my toenails and hair fell out on that leg. Also very sensitive to touch.

Sorry for all the questions, I just haven't run into anyone else who has had it.

My ankle alway hurt so bad. It swelled up. turned blue. was always cold. even when it was 90 out my ankle ws cold. still does that.
I broke my ankle at work and the doctor did surgery. I got RSD after surgery.
have very hard time walking and standing to long. 5 mins. range of motion is bad. spasms alot. burning feeling.
Just like my IC complaints.

Hello Pomeranianic. It's considered surgery because it is invasive. Anytime a doctor goes inside an organ it's considered surgery and also because you are put under anaesthesia. I'm having one done on January 26th, and I'm not looking forward to it because I'm already in pain. I'm sure I'll be much worse after the exam and probably be diagnosed with mild IC again and what will be gained from it I don't know besides more pain. My pain has been chronic for a year now and my symptoms were severe but yet I was diagnosed with mild IC. I think cysto's with hydro distention don't tell the full story. I have to consent to these tests and treatments before my pain doctor considers increasing my dose, because what I'm currently on doesn't even take the edge off my pain on some days. Honestly I'm so tired of this horrid disease, I wish I would know for sure if surgery would free me from the pain. I would do it tomorrow. I'm just wondering if you have chronic pain for over a year if there's any hope of ever being pain free or if it's going to be permanent.
