Hi all, just got back from the GYN. My hysterectomy will be with in the next month, have to wait for the girls who schedules them to not be sick LOL. Go figure I drive 2 hours and the important person is sick. Anyway, It has to be abdominal do to the roadmap of scare tissue, and we are taking everything and maybe possiblily leaving the left ovary if it is saveable. She is callin gin my URo because my cervix is so massivable scared that she thinks she might damamge my bladder getting the cervix out. She is confident that my bladder is a scare tissu disaster as well, and she would rather have my URO there then have to wait for him to be paged and scrub in. i will have a 2-4 day stay at the WVU Hilton. So I guess when I get ask what I got for Valentines Day, I can say a Hysterectomy this year instead of nothing. She says I am in for quite a recovery if all goes bad that she fears may go bad. I guess I will keep you posted.

Katrina, How long did you have to refrain from lifting and being able to do things again. I am trying to get things straightened up for the baby.

Stas, I'll ask hubby and get back to you...he has a better memory than me and it has been a while...but between the two of us we can come up with some answers. I am pretty sure my husband took off a week to take care of me...and ended up leaving a lot since I was doing better than I expected. I'll give you more details after I talk to him.

I had my hysterectomy on Feb 13th 2003 - couldn't do any heavy lifting for about 2 weeks, went back to work (clerical) after 3 weeks. Good luck - my prayers are with you.

When I had my abdominal hysterectomy, I couldn't do any lifting for six weeks. However, I had an incision that went from pubic bone to naval --- if you will have a bikini incision, the healing period is much shorter.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

The one thing my husband remembers was that he took off 3 weeks not one. I had a incision more like Donna's too...and I seem to recall you thinking yours would be different from what you have said in the chat room. As far as I know my doctor was choosing my currently existing abdominal scar as the place to begin the incision for me. Since I don't really do much lifting anyway it isn't something easy to remember. I will edit this post if I can get my husband to actually try and remember since so far he didn't want to say much over the phone. I already looked for paper work like what my release instruction were and post op and I can't find it.

Thanks everyone. Rhonda would love that site. Mine will be a bikini cut, right along my exsisting c-section scar. I just want to make sure I have coverage her for the baby as long as I will need. I know my c-section he was only 8lbs and was hard to mamge for 2-3 weeks, so now that he is 32 lbs and very mobile I am in for a trip.

I really hope all goes well & that this helps you tremendously. I think they say no lifting more than 10 pounds for 4-6 weeks. That's not so easy when you have a toddler running around. I hope you can find some help. Wishing you the best.
