Well, it's official. I saw my uro today (who is wonderful by the way) and he confirmed the diagnosis. I had a cystoscopy and hydro on 23 December which unfortunately made everything worse - I'm hoping that is only temporary, although more than three weeks on and its getting hard to be hopeful. I'm following the diet and taking Ditropan and my doctor is starting me on amitriptyline tonight so let's hope it helps because the Ditropan was helpful before the hydro but doesn't help at all now. Before the surgery sex was OK most of the time but it's totally impossible now, I hope this settles down to a manageable level soon. Not that it really matters now anyway because I don't think I have a relationship anymore so I don't think it will be an issue for a while.
Anyway, enough of the self pity, at least I know what it is now for sure and I can start trying to make myself well.
I'd love to drown my sorrows with a nice bottle of wine and a box of chocolates but I'll have to settle with some water with bicarb instead...hmmm, it doesn't quite have the same appeal ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your IC diagnosis. I wish you luck in finding a combination of meds/treatments that will assist you into a remission or at least get you to a place where you can tolerate the pain and symptoms. I would love to join you in a nice bottle of wine...but we might as well drink battery acid! Perhaps one day...
Wishing you well!
Rose

My heart goes out to you! Wine doesn't bother me, I'll have a bottle for you! I'll say a prayer that you find some kind of comfort.

It's a starting point. Give yourself a little more time to heal form the Hydro. It took me a few weeks. For me, the diet is very important. I have yet to find a medication that I can tolerate...although I started Lexapro yesterday for all the anxiety and stress over this and take ativan daily. I'm sure you will start to get relief as soon as you find out what works for you. Hang in there an dbe patient!

I agree with Mel --- give yourself some time to heal from the hydrodistention. Some people have reported that it took as long a six to eight weeks.

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna
