Hi Dawn,
If it comes down to cutting your hours or quitting, you could file for disability benefits. That's what I did, I ended up quitting my job--I did end up getting a lawyer, though, and trust me, that makes all the difference.
Good luck,
Jess
P.S. Where in WI are you located? I'm up north, past Wausau, but my lawyer is in Wausau. He's the kind where if you don't win, he doesn't get paid, but I won, so he gets paid LOL.

dawnmarieR, I really don't know how someone with ic can work at a job where you can't go to the pottie whenever! :toilet: Since I've had ic, I've helped my husband (who is self-employed) and my sister-in-law (self-employed also-we clean!) and I can go just about anytime I need to! So many people don't understand ic. Do you think your boss is being compassionite and just trying to help you? I know I couldn't work a 9-5 regular job with my ic. Don't go on a drinking binge! It will just make you feel worse!! Talk to your uro and tell them how you feel and how you can't seem to mange your day like you used to because of the pain and urgency of your ic. You do need to get on some medications to help you manage your life!
:cussing: Ic has affected my life from personality, work and if that's not enough, sex! :cussing:
I've heard of some ic'ers getting their disability. This website has information. Are you on any meds?
I hope things work out for you!
Hollar back anytime!!!
HANG IN THERE!! LOTS OF :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I Know Exactly What You Mean Form Sex To Personality~! I Do Take Meds. I Should List Them, Cuz Everyone Always Asks. I Take Oxytrol(patch) Prilosec FOR IBS, And Gastrist. I Am On Elmiron 3x Day. Macrobid 1x Day Phenazopyrid 2x Day Sometimes Hyoscyamine, And Preleif And Pain Meds Once In Awhile Which Is Tramadol. It Is Hard To Take Because Of Working. I HAve To Ask If You Take Meds Do You Take Your Elmiorn At The Same Time As The Others? It Is Very Hard To Work.i Can Not Stand It Anymore To Where I Am At My Witts End. I Do Have An Appt. With My New Uro. We Will See!!! He Comes Highly Recommended. (i Guess He Is Young Early 30s)

Hi dawnmarieR!
I take Elmiron 3x a day (by itself because it says to take on an empty stomach. During one of the many times I get up during the night to pee, I will take an Elmirion) Nexium, Cymbalta and an iron pill. It's really hard to take your meds when your working. My Uro also gave me Vicodin and B@O supposotories(very good for spasms, pain and frequency--when you need a good nights sleep!) to help me mange if I need it. I've been on Elmiron for 2 years now and I still have pain in my bladder and groin area almost constantly. I really don't think Elmiron is as great as they make out to be! I tried Tramadol before and it didn't help my IC pain. Maybe you need something a little stronger. I would never have intercourse with my husband if i didn't have pain med to help me manage! The pain is really bad after sex. I was honest with my Uro and told him exactly how I felt and what was going on with me and he assured me that every sympton I had was very common in IC patients! I hope your visit with this Uro goes well!

I would go ahead and start the process to file for disability, if I were you. You should be able to file online, almost completely. You will have to go in for an interview, of course, but when you call, ask them to send you release forms, then you can have the records sent well before your appointment, and they'll be there.
If you have the financial means, I would hire a lawyer right off the bat. Most people are turned down the first time, then have to refile and hire a lawyer. Most disability firms will not make you pay immediately, but will then take a percentage of your "lump sum", that is retroactive pay from the time you file till you win the benefits. Now, hiring one up front may work differently, but I'm not positive.
I worked at a disability office for many years, btw. :)
All states are different, but most the time you can still work while on disability, but only a set amount of hours that is normally less than half time.
I'd set up an appt. to speak to your doctor, however, and make sure he/she is onboard with you and it will really help if he/she writes a note, specifically regarding disability (for example, my neurologist thinks I'm 100% disabled due to my migraines, so he wrote up a note saying that, and put it in my file, and they will get that at the disability office; it helps) for you.
Good luck and I hope everything works out for you!
Oh, and don't drink beer, for the love of PETE! I was only diagnosed a few months back, and in the beginning didn't know I shouldn't drink beer, did, and it felt like I was peeing glass for almost 48 hours........shhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeewwwwwwweeeeeee!
Hugs!

Thank You All So Much For Your Input. We Will Have To See Waht Happens. I Go To My New Docter Tommorrow. Heard He Was Really Good, Hoping He Is Cuz I Think I Am Older Then He Is. This Whole Ssi, And Disability Thing Confuses The Heck Out Of Me. I Have Worked At My Dental Job For Ten (almost) Boo.....you Know What I Do Not Really Have Problem With Beer. It Is Wine That I Do. I Love Wine To, So It Is Hard. Someone Said To Take Two Prelief Before Drinking It, And Will Help. So I Did, And It Did Help...maremare.....as For Elmiron, I Do Not Think It Has Done Anything For Me. I Only Take It Twice Aday Now, Due To A Great Deal Of Hair Loss. None Of The Other Meds Worked Either Like Detrol, Or Ditropan. I Am Like Freak Nothing Works. You Also Right With The Whole Tramadol Thing. It Is Not Strong At All. Dervaset Works Pretty Good. Is That Not Sad That We Have To Take Pain Meds Before Sex With Our Husbands. Sometimes The Thought Of Sex Is Like Yick!!!!! And Yuck.......we Have To Like Plan Not Doing Something For A Couple Of Days Afterwards. Does Anybody Take A Antibiotic After??? You Know Instead Of Cig, Take A Pill So Boo Are You On Disability? You Know What I Guess At The Age Of 31 You Would Never Think That You Would Have To File Something Like That. Isn't It That Your Life Begins At 30, And 40???? Funny Hey? You Know I Guess I Would Be Happy Just Tkaing A Walk With My Boys And Not Freaking Out, Or Going To See A Movie , Without Wondering How Much Of It I Will Miss. Or My Whole Lower Half Of My Body Not Hurting That Would Be Great To??????????? That Ladies Is Fantasy Land!!!!!!

This disease is such a bummer sometimes! I think we need to be more vocal and really get the word out about this disease. If I had the money I would get a few billboards!!!! Or some kind of commercial. It is all about publicity.
As far as the disability goes, you might want to think of it as a temporary thing. I was off for awhile and unable to work until I got a better handle on things. When things got bad again I was just plain determined to work and do what I love to do and it actually helps keep me distracted and I think less depressed. But that is just me, we aren't all alike in that way. For some of us it is just too much physical stress. I am always fighting with the fact that I can't be "normal" and I just turned 40. This should be the best of times, right?? I would look into the disability o know all of your options. Maybe you could just cut back to a half-time position.

Our fantasies are so like----the same!! :) Oh the fantasy life of an icer! :loco: It must be so boring to most!! We should be fantasizing about the "I can't believe it's butter guys!" (Yummy) but it seems that since I hit that big 40, I started to go down hill. I had to learn to slow down and that was hard for me because I've always been a go getter!and Oh my God....It's really depressing to have your hair fall out, especially being a woman (on top of everything else icers go through) because of elmirion and the dang medicine doesn't even seem to be working!! :cussing: :cussing:
I really enjoy our discussions!!!!!!!!!!
