I was sitting at the kitchen table the other night with family when we started talking about New Years Resolutions. Mine is simple! I want to reduce my daily sugar load. I don't drink sodas but I usually crave sugar immediately after dinner and, often, I just have to have that something sweet to tell me that the meal is finally over.

But, here's the real kicker. Whenever I eat too much sugar (as I did over the holidays), it really messes up my IBS .... which was very active between the holidays and New Years. I had enough gas cramps to last a lifetime! When I tried to breakdown why it was going crazy, I realized that I'd been having lots of sugar each day... which leads to a yeast overgrowth... which leads to gas, cramps, etc. etc. Within 48 hours of stopping the sugar, I was feeling better! Yahoo!!

So... my first resolution for 2006 is to reduce my intake of sugar! I just feel so much better without it.

How about you folks. I'd love to hear what your New Years Resolutions are!

Jill :)

My resolutions this year are to learn to be a better advocate for myself, and to begin an exercise program to tone this flabby body up.

Hugs,

PS Happy New Year Jill :)

My new years resolution is to go into remission...Ok...I'll tell the truth, it is to get totally cured of IC.

Sorry, but you asked!

My resolution is to eat breakfast. I have a bad habit of going all day without eating & then totally pig out at night. I've gotta change this.

I want to give up sugar also. But, to tell the truth I'm afraid if I cut sugar out of my diet, and then try to add it back in, say around the holidays, the sugar will begin to cause IC pain. Sounds silly I know, but I have lost so many of my favorite foods with IC, I'd hate to loose sugar completely too. Has anyone cut sugar out and then added it back without any problems??!?!

Hi Jill,
:)
One way to short circuit that end-of-the-meal-have-something-sweet thing is to brush your teeth right after the meal. It's sweet (sort of), but mostly it gives that "It's over" signal. And, hey, anything that makes a visit to the dental hygienist a little shorter, is an extra good thing.
Good luck on your resolution! It's a good one:)

Sugar is definately my #1 enemy, however, I too seem to crave it because it isn't in my diet that much anymore.

Jill, you might try introducing juicing this year. It alkalizes your body and there is a natural sweetness to carrott juice and beets. It will make you feel better than sugar ever did. Also you can try Stevia. It's a natural sweetener that is organic not harmful. I got to a point where I could bake cookies with it and they weren't too bad.
