I am new here, I would like to say "hello" to all of you! I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I have been dealing with bladder pain, urgency, all the IC symptoms for about four years now. Two years ago, a urologist did a cystoscopy on me. For this procedure, I received no pain medication whatsoever. He supposedly filled my bladder to about 250cc, giving me what he called a hydrodistention then told me he saw absolutely nothing, but said I have mild IC, gave me a precription for Elmiron, Elavil and told me to go home. I was extremely dissapointed, thinking that this was not a proper procedure, as from what I understand, how can a hydrodistention be properly done without some form of sedation? I waited over a year to get this appointment. Now, I did some research and made another appointment with another doctor. He said that I will have two procedures done. Tomorrow I will have the cystoscopy under IV sedation...if I am being sedated this time, would that mean that he will be doing a proper hydrodistention? Also, I am scheduled for a bladder xray, where they fill and relieve my bladder and take pictures of it. What is the bladder xray all about...or is this another term for hydrodistention?

Mern I would say "yes" you most likely will have the cysto with hyrdo done. Sounds like the first time you just had the regular cysto done in the office. This is normal to have done in the beginning, when the uro's are trying to figure out what is wrong. Now with the one you having tom, please have someone there to drive you home, you most likely already know this. Also the bladder x-ray is also pretty normal. After feeling up your bladder to over distention they will release the fuild and take an x-ray of what the bladder looks like. You should be able to see the inflammed and pinpoint hem. and stuff. They may make an x-ray of what it looks like before the hydro is done. Some people also get copies of the x-ray's they have done. The hyrdodistention is the part of actually filling the bladder up with fuild. They do this under sedation because if you were awake you would not be able to handle the pain. Good luck tom.
