:bonk: I have a feeling that my uro is going to want to do a cystoscopy on me. Is it similar or worse to a colonoscopy or endoscopy? Those weren't too bad. I've read some of the posts about nausea and urinary pain afterward. YUK!

The cysto in the doctor's office is very similar to being catheterized --- not fun, but not horrible either.

Is having it done in the doctor's office the doctor's call, or does it depend on the severity of your symptoms, etc.? If it is up to me, I'd prefer that.

I was never offered acysto in the office, I don't think it is common practice here. I've had three and all were done under anaesthetic in hospital. The only discomfort it the first pee afterwards.
My last cysto was done with a spinal block and I didn't even have that problem!

I have never had a cysto in the doc's office; the only one I was had was under general anesthesia when I had my hydrodistention for diagnosis. That wasn't too bad for me; I was slightly nauseated for an hour or so after the anesthesia, but the nurses kept marveling at how alert and "with it" I seemed for someone who'd just had surgery. I went home the same day, and I was very sore for a few days afterwards and saw blood in my urine, but it all passed pretty quickly. As for the in-office kind, I can't really help, but most people I have talked to say that it is like being catheterized -- maybe just a little more painful, but not too bad. :grouphug:

I didn't have such a great in office experience. It was very painful and I could hardly tolerate the catheter. They also checked to see how much fluid I could tolerate being put in my bladder and that was horrible as well. I will be having the hydrocystogram under anesthesia next week.

I seem to be in the minority though so far.

Mine was much better than I had expected. Make sure that they use lidocaine gel and leave it in for about 10 minutes to make sure you are nice and numb. I barely felt it except when the scope passed the urethra spincter. Aftewards I burned when I peed 3 times and that was it. I felt back to my baseline frequency/pain by the next morning. I was very worried about it but looking back I would do it again if I had to. You will do fine.

After the cystoscopy I had to pee in a bathtub for 4 days since it was so painful to urinate. I also developed a bladder infection but my GP told me I didn't have an infection....until finally she called me a week later to say yes I did have an infection. So that dragged the misery out a bit longer.

Cystoscopy isn't NEARLY as bad as the urodynamics test though. Ughhh stupid medical tests!!

I had one a few years ago, wasn't that bad, a little bit of burning after going to the bathroom, but other than that.... I was ok.

I agree about the urodynamics...that is one test that I totally wish I never had....but the cysto was not bad for me at all...
