Hi.

I am new to this website. I had a baby four years ago and was diagnosed six months later by a gynecologist with vulvadinia because of severe pain in my vaginal area. Two years later I was having what I thought were recurring UTI's. After a year of this, I was diagonsed by a urologist with IC after a Potassium Chloride test. I have been taking Elmiron for 8 months now, and I still contiue flare ups every month during my ovulation time. The flare ups always follow intercourse within 24-48 hours. The Elmiron has done nothing for me.

Now my OB wants to test me for endomitriosis. I have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years now. I am so tired of living this way! I want someone to get to the bottom of this. I have a call into my urologist to see if he can do a cystoscopy at the same time I am having my laproscopy. I need to know what is going on!

Any advice?

Many urologists consider the potassium sensitivity test to be a pretty certain diagnosis. It's possible to have both IC and endometriosis, however. The cystoscopy with hydrodistention done under anesthesia sometimes helps with symptoms, as well as diagnosing. You need to talk with your OB and your urologist to find out if the two surgical procedures can be done at the same time --- some will do it; others prefer to schedule separately.
