I have been curious about how much my bladder can hold so I went out and bought a measuring cup. My bladder can hold about 10 ounces. I hear the average bladder can hold about 20-25 ounces. Anyone else read this?

Thanks,

Erica

my bladder holds 200cc's, (about 3 ounces) I think the normal bladder is 1000 to 1200 cc's (not sure in ounces) I am not for sure, but I am sure some one will know.

I remember being told that I hold about 400 cc's.

10 ounces is about 300cc - still lower than the non IC person I think most non ICers can be 500cc and above...I can only hold 200cc

Normal bladder capacity while awake is about 500cc (about one pint). Under anesthesia, normal bladder capacity is over 1000cc in a non-IC patient. When my bladder capacity was last measured by instilling sterile water through a catheter, it was just under 300cc. However, I will tell you that I feel the need to urinate with much less than that.

So I had to do the conversion. One pint = 16 ounces. My bladder can hold 10 so that is well below average. Could that be caused by a bladder infection?

I have large capacity for an IC patient. My bigger problem is severe pain. Awake I have held up to 700-800cc for brief time and my capacity under anesthesia on mon. was 910cc. Sitting up I can somewhat tolerate several hundred but lying down I can't tolerate even a few drops if awake. I don't get it. The appearance of my bladder is pretty good right now and does not match up with the severe pain level. I don't really understand the origin of my pain.

last time mine was checked it was 250 awake and 350 under anesthesia.

I never had a hydro so I don't know how much it holds under sedation...But my maximum I ever held while awake was 500cc...and let me tell you that it was SO PAINFUL! (I was stuck in a traffic jam...and went into the "hat" as soon as I got home just to see what my max. was.)

Normally I feel like I "have to go or else I will explode" at about 300-350cc. But I know that I could hold more, just with great pain.

Diane I'm like you. When I'M not flaring pain is my only symptom and I void a little more frequently than someone without IC, and my bladder capacity is about 400 cc. My bladder looks quite good as well and does not correspond to my intense pain. IC is poorly understood and even difficult to diagnose, that's why some doctors are making a diagnosis based on symptoms only. I think that a lot of the pain can be caused by inflammation of the nerves.
