I'm new here, so forgive me. I'm also new to this disease, though not new to the pain. Does anyone else feel sick to their stomach during a flare? I almost always feel that way and I used to sip ginger ale, but I guess that's out of the question now. I have been living on french fries, crackers, and grilled cheese for the past three weeks and so far those are the only foods that I can tolerate. My doc said it just happens to be the way my body handles the pain, either that or it's adrenaline. Any suggestions on soothing my stomach?

:welcome: to the ICN emmie and Susie!!
Yes, I used to always get sick to my stomach when I would flare. I am not sure what the reason is for everyone but I think too much acid was part of the cause for me. (I think this since now I am on multi antiacids and it has helped my stomach and bladder. I can tollerate pepto bismo when all else failes. Are you on any medications? Many meds can cause nasiousness and if that is the problem your doctor may be able to help you.
Please feel free to contact me if I can help you with anything. :welcome: to the family!

I am allergic to Reglan and Compazine, two widely used anti-nausea meds. They do this weird thing to me that makes my whole body stiffen...it has a name but it escapes me. Anyway, the other day I was given a great cocktail of morphine and phenergan in an i.v. and while it didn't help me to not feel the urgency, it made me not feel so anxious about it. Are there any other meds out there for nausea that don't make you sleepy? Something I could take while I'm at work? I've tried tums and pepto and they don't do anything for me.

well like i said everyone is different, i take it without any side effects. maybe you could try it while at home before trying it at work. take it on a day when you dont have anything to do and see how it effects you. as far as another medicaion i was going to say reglan. but since you are allergic, i dont know hun.

I've been having nausea a lot lately and have been miserable with it. I'm not in a flare and I'm not taking any new meds so I don't have a clue to what is causing me to feel like this. Can IBS make you nauseated?

I have alot of nausea with pain, and phenergan works best for me. If you had trouble with reglan and compazine you probably had EPS or extrapyramidal side effects. I have noticed the longer I am on phenergan, the less sleepy I am but it still relieves the nausea.

If you have any signs of IBS, the french fries could be aggravating it and in turn causing your IC to flare. I know a lot of us have problems with fried foods that are contain a lot of fat. Many of us also have problems with dairy for the same reasons, so the grilled cheese may be troublesome for you too and bring on the nausea. Just some things to consider.
