I am confused, reading your posts, is the DSMO the same as hydros? The DMSO is going to be done in her office, every wednesday, while I am awake.

I am so scared, my flares start with the horrible pain and the pain leads to nause so badly. I trust her but then I read here and I get scared but I have to have faith that she is good and will get me better.

Are DMSO's good, can they heal along with the elmiron?

I am scared, trying to stay hopeful, but wondering if it could ever get worse as I nothing could be worse then where I am.

Thank you,
Amy

Amy,
N
o Hydros are not the same as DSMO. A Hydrodistention needs to be done under anthesia. The insert water into your bladder to distened it and then drain it and look at the bladder wall to check for IC. Because they usually distened the bladder alot being awake would cause to much pain for the patient, this is the reason for the anethsia.

DSMO are mediciation instilled directly into the bladder. They will ask you to hold for a while. Some find that DSMO's work and others find they dont. They did not help me. Also if they do work it can take several before they do. And some report an increase in IC symptoms for a few days after having them done.

Also Elmiron is good to take for IC, but it can take anywhere from 6 mths to a 1 yr to work. Also about the hydros, some find that after having the diagnostic procedure done that their IC go into remission for awhile.

Are you doing the IC diet? If not this would be a great thing to do. You can find it in the patient handbook.

I wish you luck. :grouphug:
