Hi

Just wanted to know if antidepressants are used for pain only or can they be used for urgency & frequency as well?

Thanks

They are supposed to help relax so they could definitely help with the frequency & urgency.

I was prescribed Elavil to help my frequency and urgency. My uro said Elavil has a side effect of relaxing the bladder.

My Uro said that it was to help your body relax. The less stress on your body the better.

Hi Danii
I've read about the "relaxing" effects as the others mentioned above, but personally, it only helps with my pain. I did not get any relief from frequency/urgency (other than a little better at nighttime - slept better) until I added hydroxyzine.

Elavil oh my god this stuff is a god sent!!! I dont have IC, but do have moderate vulvodynia!! ANd i swear this stuff is really good!im only on 10mg at moment and it works like a charm i almost feel normal again!! Cant wait to start my treatment for vulvodynia soon and get all better again! I mean this stuff definetly helps my mild bladder spasms and definetly gets rid of a large amount of my vulva burning pain!! For once i can say that im happy again! but yeah it definetly helps relax the bladder and its muscles as well as help block the pain!! karisxox
