I had microscopic blood in my urine that cannot be explained. No infection. I have frequent urination at night (sometimes every 30 minutes until approx 5:00 a.m.) for years. I don't have pain with sex but do have dryness since my first child (19 years ago). I've used KY since that time.

My doctor's tried Dextrol LA and Enablex which didn't help. He now is trying Elavil, which is starting to work ( over the last 2-1/2 weeks, i've had 3 nights of uninterrupted sleep which I haven't had in years). My doctor didn't come out and say I have IC, but said let's try this medication. Then my OBGYN gave me this brochur. I don't have the extreme pain or the pain with sex. I have slight pain at night after urinating several times (drops usually). Is there is a way to confirm the diagnosis?

Thanks for any help with this -

Carolyn

:welcome: to the ICN!!! :)
Make sure they are doing a culture when they test for bacteria. You can get faulse possitives and faulse negatives with a dip stick. Not everyone has pain with IC. My first symptoms were quite mild. There is information on the diagnostic tests for IC in the handbook http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/ there is also info on the IC diet which if it helps you can also be a sign for IC.

If you can, find a Uro how is FAMILIAR with IC...more doctors are getting familiar with it but there are still many who are not. Mine was diagnosed with Cystoscopy & Hydroinstention. Keep searching til you find a doc who will listen to you, that can be a challenge in itself:-) Try the listing of doctors on this website...that may help!
