Ok I got diagnosed with IC April 2003 and was put om med which helped eventually. Then I found that being on Birth Control helped alot so that was the only med I was on for awhile. Now i am off all med and feel fairly normal. Is it typical to get IC and then it get better or go away in time?? I am trying to stay away from medicine if possible because i hate putting them in my body. This disease is very wierd!

There's lots of ups and downs with IC, plenty of us can attest. The less medication the better I say, but you need to take what improves your symptoms and keeps you there.

If you're doing well without medications, I say go for it --- but I encourage you to watch your diet to help keep the IC monster controlled.

I did the same thing...I went off all meds and just stuck to the algonot 5 and flaxseed. I have been in remission for about 8 months now.

Yes, Jen It does. I agree with you about:
I've found that once you heal your insides & get healthier, & for me, balancing out the hormones, it does wonders!!!
Thanks.

I started having IC problems in the spring of 2003, and Drs. couldn't do anything except give me tons of meds that did no good. My own Dr. never even mentioned IC, but by that time I had read enough to be afraid that was what it was. I did finally go to a Uro, but only by me calling one myself. Thank goodness I didn't get to see the one I was trying to see...later I heard he was good with the men, but rough with the women...anyway, I said do you have any Uro that I can see tomorrow, I was awful then, and they gave me Dr. Cohen. I did like him, and after about a couple of times going, he said I really needed to have the have Hydro. so he could see inside my bladder. So, I did and was started on Elavil and the diet and he gave me Prelief also, which I bought more of for about the next year, and took the Elavil. Elavil did me awful the first one I took and I didn't want to take it, but later, the Dr. talked me into trying it again, it finally started to help some, but made me gain weight later on...I was on such a strict diet...the IC diet...and I really mostly ate plain meat and potatoes, and a little bread...I was actually feeling like "if I have to be like this all the time, I just would much rather die and not have to be like this".....On one of my visits to my Dr. I started talking about antibiotics and how I had been reading about studies done with using a low dose anti. over a very long period of time....and he started me on one, which I still take. I"m scared to get off of it, since the one time I did, I started to get bad again. I stopped the Elavil and when I started to feel the burning and all in the uretheral area, I would take a piece of Xanax, which helped like the Elavil. I guess you would say I'm in remission now for a good while...BobbieB
