Hi again, everyone. I am one of the newly diagnosed folks that popped on a few days ago to introduce myself. I was hoping someone out there could please give me some advice.

I have been in so much pain today, and just crying along with it. I have to try and get back to work tomorrow. I am on a night-time pain medication (something quite strong), and I take Tramadol and 2 Aleve during the day. Today, however, not a thing helped. I compare this pain's intensity to labor (yet not quite the same pain - just the intensity of it). I am so angry right now, and just wish there was a doctor out there that could help me. I know there is no cure, but just something that can help with this excrutiating pain would certainly be a blessing. I know it takes time with the diet, etc., but I can't continue taking off days from work, or they will probably end up letting me go. Sad, but true. They've been great, so far, but I know they can only do so much for me.

I did purchase the Thermopack heating pads (I think that's what they are called). I am using those at night, too.

The pain appears to be a horrible shooting pain through the urethra and then it just throbs and throbs. Like in labor, the come and go, but all day long.

If anyone has any good suggestions, I'm open to ANY and ALL of them.

Thank you!!

I know that pain well. My heating pad helps, drinking alot of water(ICK)to dilute my urine, and meds. Warm bath with epsom salts or baking soda help but with a 5 year old that option isn't the best.

Let me know if I can help you in anyway, I had the work fears and all that you are experiencing so if you want you can PM or email me or one of the Newbie Angel volunteers. They volunteer for that one on one.

Hugs,
Barb :grouphug:

Thank you so much! How do I e-mail you? I tried by going to your profile, and it gave me a message that you do not wish to receive e-mails. Thanks, again. I'm going to try your suggestions. Like I said, I'll try anything at this point. I have been drinking water, but sometimes that really hurts, too. I also have a fever now of about 101. :(

Hi dzinr. With a fever it could be a UTI going on causing you these troubles those sucker seem to sneek up on us when we at least expect it.
You may want to call the on call dr. tonight to let them know what is going on. They may tell you to go ahead and go into the E.R to be treated. You don't need to sit there and keep suffering.
I understand that you are scare of losing your job, and you have every right to be, but you shouldn't have to suffer either. Please call the on call Dr. or at least go into the e.r tonight. they can go ahead and check your urine if you have a uti going on they can start you on an anti. and help you with the pain for the night so you hopefully can go on into work tomorrow. If it's a UTI a few days of an anti. you should start to feel better.
the fever plus your systoms really makes me believe its a UTI. I'm no Dr. Nor am I a RN. but I've had enough uti to know how they come out of no where at us.
If you need a shoulder You can P.M me anytime.
Sending you hugs and prayers

I think it would be a good idea to have your urine checked to be certain you don't have an infection. Sometimes it's difficult for an IC patient to tell the difference between a flare and an infection.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna

Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words and support! My husband took me to the ER this morning, and lo and behold, I have a bad kidney infection. No wonder the pain was excrutiating. I have had a kidney infection in the past, and have also had kidney stones. They put me on Ceptra (I think that's how it is spelled), which is an antibiotic, and Percocet for the pain. The Percocet really helped a lot, but did make me quite sleepy. The doctor told me I should be doing better and be able to go back to work later this week.

Thanks, again!! It's so great to have a wonderful support group such as this one!
