hello everyone. i used to post here under a different name, but the nickname i was using is becoming pretty public, due to the nature of a specific performance-type hobby i have ... lol

anyway, i was the one several months ago who was complaining about running a low-grade fever forever and ever. don't know if anyone remembers me or not. anyway, it's been over a year and still running the dang fever. some days are better than others. i've come to a semi-acceptance that i will be running a fever maybe forever, because none of the doctors claim it as their problem. anyway, my whole theory on all of this IC stuff (and the fever) is that it is an infection that will not go away. i don't care what the cultures say. i always run a low-grade fever with a UTI and have suffered chronic UTIs for the past several years. this whole thing started with a UTI. so, i am one of those who wholeheartedly subscribes to the bacteria theory.

i wish someone would listen to me and just give me some darned IV antibiotics. it would be worth a try, imo, but no one wants to. i've been to 3 urologists thus far, so i'm not in a huge hurry to go through another one. the one i have is pretty good. he dx'd me after the other 2 didn't even think the scope was worth it. at the time i wasn't having a whole lot of classic IC symptoms though.

anyway, i will probably be visiting the boards more frequently, as i have had some more health issues pop up.

i was diagnosed with IC about 6 months ago. i'm supposed to be taking elmiron, but i'm not. for a while there i was taking so many drugs, i just got tired of popping pills. i think i have been a bad patient for not taking them. i also have not been taking the low-dose macrobid like he wanted. after having some problems, a few UTIs since the dx, i am seriously considering doing what the doctor said and taking the medication. the only thing is, i heard elmiron cause weight gain, and i have just weaned myself off of zoloft after gaining 15-20 pounds. damn, i used to be fine. it sucks! lol

i just thought i'd check in.

i'm having a hysteroscopy, d&c and laparoscopy for some other fun problems on monday. so i'll be laid up in bed and on the internet next week. give me a shout out y'all.

I don't know who you were before? Can you tell us your old name?

Elmiron does not cause weight gain. Maybe you were mixing it up with Elavil? So don't worry about that, if that was the only reason you have for not trying it.

thanks! that does help. i hate to seem so vain or shallow, but i packed on an extra 15-20 pounds on zoloft.

I also run a low-grade temp every evening. My uro told me it is very common with ICers.
Nobody likes to have to take so many meds all the time. I know I personally hate having to do it...but, if the diet alone isn't doing enough for your IC, you probably won't be helping yourself to refuse the meds. I know it stinks, but when you have a chronic condition, the meds will follow.
Wishing you better days.
Jen

Elmiron doesn't cause weight gain, so you can take that concern off your list. :)

I am on 5 different meds and it just seems second nature now. I have my life back - I feel NORMAL 95% of the time. That is worth any amount of medication b/c the discomfort I felt before was making me crazy and robbing me of quality of life. Now I am back to how I felt before (pretty much - still an occasional flare).

Hi there welcome back (what was your other name?) Elmiron will not make you gain weight. The macrobid, you shuold be taken if your doctor gave it to you. If you don't, he can say you refused treatment. acouple of summers ago I took macrobid for 3 months, because of on going, never ending uti. I have had 2 or 3 infection's since.
I had a complete hysterectomy on the 28th. rest well.. I don't have a lap top, so getting on the internet the first week was not an option.. You also migh want to consider taking up residency on the couch the first 3 days.. I hurt so bad after waking up in my bed I was in tears,, wishing you lots of luck and hope all goes well.

I know it's unusual, but an individual's "normal" temperature can vary. For many, many years my temperature ran at 98.0 and if it went to 99 it meant I had a fever. I have known people whose normal temperature is as high as 99.1 with no symptoms of any kind. Just within the past couple of years, I've been at what is the average normal temp of 98.6, but even now it can vary towards being slightly lower than that.

I do suggest you at least take the Elmiron. It can take six months or more to become effective, but those who are helped by it feel it is well worth it. I have never seen anyone post that they gained weight on it.

my normal temp is close to 97. for me, 99 is a fever. in fact, even 98 is high for me.

I run around 97 too, and if its 98 I am running a fever. I don't think I have ever ran at normal.

It is very interesting to hear other people having "fevers". I usually run at "normal" 98.6, or below but sometimes it goes up to higher, where I feel warmer and test warmer. I never really thought it was a fever, but just another strange aberration of my life. I have mentioned in to the dr. I am seeing, and he has never been concerned.
