Is there a big difference between those 2 conditions? I was just diagnosed with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome and have been on Elmiron and told to stay on it. So if I am being treated with Elmiron for Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome, then the difference between those 2 condtions shouldn't be really different right?

As far as I know the Chronic Pelvic Pain and Interstitial Cystitis are one and the same. Don;t quote me though cause I am not 100% sure.

Boy did you choose a good question. http://www.ic-network.com/ The IC network says this Interstitial Cystitis is a pelvic pain syndrome afflicting millions men, women and children throughout the world.
Also known as painful bladder syndrome, patients experience symptoms of frequency, urgency and/or pain. Many patients also have an underlying pelvic muscle tension disorder. You are not alone!

I don't think all doctors will agree on this since IC is in the process of having a new name and what turns out to be the name is not yet known and there are illnesses that there are theories that in actuality the illness is actually IC.
I recommend you ask your doctor about this since Elmiron is pretty much an IC treatment and you may want to know his definission of what he diagnosed you with. Since not all doctors agree...you may want him to give you his description of Interstitial Cystitis, pelvic pain syndrome, painful bladder syndrome, and over active bladder....if he thinks they are all the same or what? Sorry I don't have a definate answer but I don't think there is one yet. Doctors don't agree...sorry.

Changing the name of interstitial cystitis is something that is being considered, but I haven't read anything that indicates the change has actually taken place. The motive behind such a change is, at least partially, because "cystitis" is usually a bladder infection and IC is not so it can be confusing.

My doctor said that I had CPPS and PBS before I was diagnosed. Now I have IC. Same treatments, same disease. I think that some doctors will give a provisional diagnosis of CPPS or PBS, and then eventually change it to IC when there is a firm diagnosis. There is no difference in treatment.
