What do people do for their monthly pre-period flares? i pretty much feel good the rest of the month and then along comes PMS and nothing (med wise) works for that. I just started Elmiron about a week ago, so it is too early to tell if that will help. thanks for any input...

Hey schnauzer, I too had the same troubles. I was fortunate enough that my med solutions tended to work. When all else failed it was live with the heating pad. For me the longer I have been on the Elmiron, the less it happens. I still can tell when my period/ovulation/pms is coming along, but nothing major. Hopefully some others will have some more ideas for what helps them! :)
Hugs!

When my period came I was in pain 2 1/2 weeks out of the month :headbang: I would get into a hot tub and then use the heating pad when I got out. Also I would take darvocet for pain. I recently had a hysterectomy done (11/28) I actually started my period the morning I was shceduled for surgery, so I had been in alot of pain all that week, and I thought it was stress pain.
Elmiron can take 6 to 8 months to work.. so don't give up on it yet...
I hope you are feeling better..

Yes I am finding that I charted my flare ups and they seem to be right before or right after my period. I ended up getting desperate this last time and took uristat and cystex. It helped alot an in one day the symptoms subsided. My dr. gave me a stronger version of the over the counter uristat. She has me taking phenazopyrid (pyridium)
I know that this will not heal the problem but at the time at least it makes it bareable.

Hi,
I don't know if this is common in IC, but when I actually get my period my urgency and frequency stops. I have never experienced pain with my IC just the U&F. Does anyone else notice this when they get their period?
Sometimes I'm just hanging out for my period to come so I can get some relief. Does that sound strange? Because of this happening I sometimes wonder if I really do have IC.

:) All my symptoms get a lot worse when I am due for my periods, just because you don't doesn't mean you don't have IC, every body is different, that's why this disease is so confusing.

I often feel a relief in symptoms the first few days of my period.
