I took my boyfriend out for his birthday last night, and we enjoyed a really great dinner and dessert. We both had the same thing for dinner (sushi) but I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible stomach cramping and nausea and spent several hours alternating between vomiting and diarrhea. It was just awful - very painful. :cussing: By about 5 A.M., my system finally calmed down enough to fall asleep, although I ended up being very dehydrated because I was unable to drink any water until this morning without vomiting it back up. :toilet: My boyfriend slept through the entire thing (figures! ) and had no stomach distress. In fact, he was surprised when I mumbled something about feeling like I had food poisoning, since as I said, we ate the same food. Well, at least he enjoyed his birthday dinner. I just ended up with a pity party. :biglaugh:
My stomach is OK now, no nausea, but my gut still feels very unsettled. Having IBS-D always means the discomfort level is racheted up a notch or two. Ugh. I'm surprised I don't feel worse, given that the dosages of Elmiron, Elavil and Detrol LA I took before going to bed didn't get metabolized. Hopefully I'll feel halfway normal again tomorrow.

Sorry you had such a bad time. Typical that your boyfriend slept though the whole thing :headbang: Men most of them are the same. Hope you are doing better.

So sorry you are sick, I hope you feel better soon... Isn't there some type of illness you can get by eating sushi (raw fish, correct?) it may have been a different batch then hubbys... stick to vernors(if you can drink it) and crackers.
lol not laughing at you but what you said, about your b/f.. A few weeks back.. I ate some left over pizza, (2 days old in the fridge) I was up with horrible stomach cramping to and diarrhea. Hubby never woek up, I was so sick I was crawling totthe bathroom and nearly woke him to take me to er..

I just hope you feel better this morning. I'm one of those who would never eat raw fish.

So sorry you were so sick. Sushi being raw fish I do believe can give you some type of food poisioning. And its possible your batch was bad and not b/f. I am so funny about food. Like left overs and stuff, just because food poisoning is so, so bad. Not to long ago I did that to my hubby. He was sick from something I cooked, but he was the only one to get sick. He also has stomache problems and I believe that makes him more sensative.
I never understand how they sleep through that stuff. I never could, I mean how could you???? I hope you are better today...
Raw fish...blahhh! I grew up on a farm, and even eat steak well done.

Thanks all for the support and good wishes! I am feeling much better today. It is possible I got a bad piece of something that my boyfriend (Mr. "Blissfully Asleep While I Am Keeling Over In Agony") did not get. Ironically, half the sushi we ate was technically cooked -- we ordered a crunch roll and another one with calamari that was breaded with panko (like tempura) and lightly fried, although there was some raw salmon wrapped around the roll. We don't eat sashimi or any of the more exotic varieties of sushi. But you're right -- any of it might have been contaminated and I am always more sensitive to food than most other people. The restaurant is one of the best in the area, but you still never know.
Of course, having had that experience it will be a while before I touch sushi again! :( Years ago, I had a severe gallbladder attack after eating Chinese food (the attack is what got my gallbladder removed) and it was nearly a year before I'd eat it again, even though probably anything I would have eaten that day would have triggered an attack!
You know, maybe Asian food is not for me...the last time I ate Thai food, I woke up with a UTI... :headbang:

I know how you feel; this has happened to me before and it's AWFUL. I got food poisoning really bad from sushi once and we contemplated going to the ER because I just could not hold anything down for what seemed like forever. But, it seemed like as soon as we made the decision to go, it all calmed down and I held water down. Figures! Well, at least I didn't have to sit in the ER, throwing up, while waiting for IV fluids....
I hope you are feeling better by now. :grouphug:
