Hi Mary,

Sorry you have severe nerve leg pain. I have this also and sometimes it is so very bad. My leg pain is called sciatica. I take Klonopin to help me sleep and some hydrocodone that just takes the sharp edge off.

When I was talking with my Dr. about this he explained that I have nerve damage throughout my body. I just reacted cool like I knew that, but my head was spinning trying to sort out what he was telling me.

The Dr. said that he was surprised that they have not done a biopsy on my nerves. So I checked on the internet and found the nerve biopsy he was talking about, and it didn't look too nice. I also met some folks that had the nerve in their foot biopsied, and they had a real sore foot after, and could not get their shoe on. I did not need to be wounded, I already felt so wounded with the bladder frequency and pain.

I am curious as to where and how bad the damage is, they can look at nerves under a microscope and see the damage. Sometimes it is the myelin coating on the outside that is all messed up, and sometimes it is the nerve axions that are messed up. I suppose just having some fluid type of edema will put pressure on a nerve(like having a pinched nerve) will cause pain or even lack of feeling like a numbness.

This is just another of the related to IC symptoms (sister diseases). I have never found anything that will give me relief, I have tried neurontin, and many pain medications, none help, and I see a Dr. at a pain clinic for this nerve pain. My pain Dr. says this type of nerve pain is hard to treat. He always tells me that the body has a wonderful way of healing and thinks it will get better someday. I pray everyday for the nerves to heal.

I also have pain in my feet, hands and fingers, and all the severe bladder pains too. My Dr. has given me a diagnosis of "peripheral neuropathy" for this nerve pain. If diagnosed early, neuropathy may be reversible or at least controlable. I started having this nerve pain when I was real little so it was untreated for a long long time. I just never felt I could complain to my parents. My Mother and two sisters also suffer with bladder symptoms. Thats four of us in my immediate family. We are all now in the gentic study for IC, they are trying to locate a gene or gene's in our DNA.

An older family member called it the family disease, as it affected some older family members in the past. In our family it is thought that it is probably caused by the disease of Hypothyroidism. Treatment for this should halt further damage.

If you ever find something that helps your nerve pain be sure to share, most of the time I just try to focus on things to take my mind away from the pain.
It really doesn't work that much, but I have to keep living or I have nothing but pain in my life.

Hope this helps you know that you are not alone. And thanks for sharing too.

Are you sure its nerve pain, and not muscular? I have a lot of pain in my legs because the muscles are tight from not enough exercise. The only thing that really relieves it is a narcotic.

Leg pain may also be due to fibromyalgia. I told my uro once, and said I probably have fibro.
