I have had 4 rescue treatments in the doctors office. Each treatment has caused some bleeding, but on the first treatment and the 4th treatment I really bleed a good bit. Yesterday was #4 and I've been bleeding like I do with a lite period since the treatment. When it happened the first time I called the doctor who said a little blood was normal due to the cathedar. But I'm bleeding fresh bright blood. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Have you been tested to rule out infection? If you're seeing bright red urine, you really need to see your doctor. I have never had bleeding from a catheter.

I've had several urine tests done in the past few months, I haven't ever had an infection inspite the fact that it feels like infection. She tested my urine yesterday and said it showed blood which it has shown blood every time they check it. The probed pretty hard with the cathedar yesterday b/c when she first inserted it she didn't get an urine out, and she felt that she should get some urine to drain before putting in the solution. Soo she kept moving it around, it didn't really hurt me, so I'm not sure about the bleeding?

Thanks for your responses, you're always a good help

I have never had bleeding from the catheter either. I'm sure if it was a little rough that would make sense but if it continues or gets worse I would call your doctor back.

If it is not an infection, I have seen people bleed from rough catheter insertions. Bad, like on their periods. I would make sure there is no infection, and if the bleeding continues contact the doc or if it gets wild tonight go to ER. Just my experience as a crusty ER nurse. Sometimes people don't insert it with that gentle touch.

Is it coming from your urethra or the bladder?? I have to wonder if the catheter is causing some of the bleeding. How about trying a Pediatric Lo Fric catheter. Dr. Parsons said that he found these very helpful for his patients. This definitely worth talking with your doc about further.

Thanks again for everyone's repsonses. Glad to report that visit #5 went well with no complications. It was the same process and the same size cathedar so I'm assuming it was due to the nurse moving the cathedar around trying to get urine? Well see how the next 4 visits go. I've learned not to empty my bladder completely before the treatment b/c my nurse will not stop with the cathedar until she gets urine, so I hold a little and let her get what she wants with killing me. That's exactly what happened the first time I bleed.
Good luck to everyone, hope this info can help someone else sometime.

I have had some bleeding after catheterization before, but it's never been really bad -- usually if it happens I see a little bright red blood in the catheter tip, and that is all there is to it. Once, I saved a catheter in a bag in the fridge and brought it to my uro... and urologist said I probably hit my inflamed bladder wall or the bladder neck when cathing, causing a small amount of blood. I was always tested for infection when this happened but it usually came back clean (aside from a few microscopic blood cells). The uro advised me to drink a lot of water to flush the wound out....
