View Full Version : Withdrawal STINKS

I had it AGAIN last night and this morning, believe it or not. This time it was my pain doc's fault, for which she profusely apologized a million times this morning when I got in to see her at 7:30 .... however it still annoys me that this is the 3rd time this year I have had to endure withdrawal symptoms.

Anyway, the issue is that my appointment got screwed up because of Thanksgiving, which meant my scripts also got screwed up, and I ran out of meds yesterday. Last night actually. I was surprised the withdrawal came so fast, to be honest -- I was on 60 mg MS-Contin 2x a day with Percocet for breakthrough, and I took the last Contin at like 5pm last night. By 4 a.m. this morning, I was dreaming I was being stabbed and awoke to the worst bladder pain of my life. As time wore on and it passed the 12 hour mark when the MS-Contin began really flowing out of my system, I got diarrhea and vomiting like, immediately! It was rather scary.

LUCKILY, I had a pain clinic appointment at 7:30 a.m. today. Hubby had to drive because I was WAY too out of it and sick. We had to stop a billion times at bathrooms so I could pee, poop, vomit, or all three. I even (embarrassingly) threw up in the parking lot at the pain clinic. It just happened when I moved around getting out of the car :( Thankfully it was early and there was hardly anyone there to witness me barfing in the lot with my hubby holding my hair.

Anyway, my pain doc saw me immediately, thankfully, because I was a mess and in a TON of pain too, and my blood pressure was something horrible like 150/98, which is HIGH for me especially since I'm on alpha-blockers as well. As I said, she apologized soooooo much and got me set up with new scripts. She put me back on the 30mg MS-Contin 3x a day regimen at my request because I felt it kept a more constant blood concentration and while the total dose was lower, I actually had less pain on that regimen because my levels were even. She finally increased my breakthrough meds, too, since I always run out like 5 days before the pain appointments.

Hubby asked about Neurontin and drugs like that and we talked about it -- pain doc said she had patients literally forgetting where they lived and getting in accidents and not knowing what happened on that stuff!!! So, she put me on Lyrica for fibro pain and hopefully to help with IC too.

Finally, we got to Walgreens to fill my scripts (I'm still running to their bathroom at this point) and they got them ready RIGHT away (God bless that pharmacist) and I just stood there in the waiting area and swallowed all three pills (MS-Contin, Percocet, and Lyrica) all at once, feeling like a total addict, and then Hubby drove us home. I went straight to my bed and passed out on it for 1.5 hours; he apparently had sympathy diarrhea and also had a nap.

*sigh*

It was really a hellish morning which has forced me to take a day off from work. But the good thing is, I feel better now. No more withdrawal symptoms, of course, and the Lyrica is rather interesting -- I took 75mg 2 hours ago and while I can still feel a dull echo of earlier pain in my bladder, I have ABSOLUTELY NO fibro pain for the first time in 2 whole months. I am slightly lightheaded, but not so bad yet -- it's more of a peaceful feeling. We'll see if it gets worse. I think I could drive, but I'm not going to try because it is just POURING with rain ... not a good time to try driving on a new med!!!

I am supposed to experiment on myself to find a good dose of Lyrica. Pain doc said, "You're a scientist, play with it and report back to me next time what you found out." I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that statement... although scientists in the 1700s used to use themselves as guinea pigs all the time and drink all sorts of nasty old crap they mixed up. LOL. :lmao: It's amazing how advanced yet backwards medicine has become -- we do clinical trials which only leave us with a guess as to what to prescribe, and patients still become guinea pigs even though the trials were supposed to prevent that....

Jen;
I as well am so happy that you got your meds. :woohoo: I too am on Lyrica, have been on it for about 2 months now. I take it at night because it knocks me out. I'm up to 150mg now at bedtime. I'm supposed to take it during the day but honestly I don't think I could drive around or be responsible for anything or anyone. I've gained some weight too since being on it, but I've been constantly gaining weight for the past 6 months.

I'm so glad that it's helping you with your fibro pain. Thats the exact reason my doctor put me on it too. Just be careful til you get used to it.

Rest and take care of yourself and so sorry to hear that you've again had to experience the ugliness of withdrawal symptoms. They are the worst, I sware!

Sending you a get well cyber hug :grouphug: :kissing: . Rest and take care of you, okay ;) ? If you feel like chatting on yahoo messenger, I'm online but am going to rest so just buzz me, okay? Cyber angel to watch over you til you get better hon

Love,
Tracy

Jen,

I am so sorry you had to go through this...that just sucks in the worse way :cussing: I get so upset when I hear things like this. No one should have to experience any of that.

I agree with you about how advanced yet backwards medicine is.

I hope you are feeling better and I'm sending a cyber hug your way :grouphug:

Jen, how terrible! I certainly hope you don't have to go through that ever again. That's really scary that you would go into withdrawal that quick. How sweet of your hubby to hold your hair while you puked. Glad the new med is helping! Big hug!

Well, I was livid of course, still am :cussing: I talked to them about it and asked what was going to happen when Christmas came along... were they going to screw me up then too? They PROMISED that everything would be straightened out, as long as I made another appointment for before the holiday. We shall see about that. I will not be put through this crap again.

I'm also going to see my uro next week and I'm going to tell him about the pain clinic and see what he thinks -- maybe he knows of a different one, or maybe he'll be willing to manage my pain himself (he did for a little bit before I went to the clinic -- the reason I went to the clinic was because the clinic is 15-20 min from my house and the uro's is 45 minutes, but I'd be willing to go the 45 minutes from now on if it meant no more craziness with my meds!!!!)

Hi so sorry about your problem I know how you feel. It is so unfair that people had to go and mess with the program so when we need to get our meds we are made to jump threw hoops to get them. Hope it does not happen again. Happy holidays
