I'm not sure what you mean. Have you tried all forms of pain pills and they just don't work or you can't take them cause of side effects or what? Are you on Elmiron or Aterax or Amitriptiline? These can help your IC symts greatly. When you are taking the other meds I listed above combined w/ a pain med, they can work better combined. You know what I mean? Sometimes, pain meds alone will not take all your pain away, so docs try them combined in a "coctail" of sorts. Also, have you tried the IC diet? This too can help, cause then you can find out what foods trigger your flares and stay away from them. Good luck. It looks like your new here so :welcome: If you have any more questions, just post back here and I or some of the other lovely ladies or men will answer your questions.
Take care and God bless, Cassandra
P.S. Have you tried bladder instillations yet? These have helped me in the past and have helped others too, its something to consider. Good luck!!! :) Also, my heating pad is my new best friend, if you don't have one, go out and buy one!!!!

Hi Jessied, I am so sorry you are having a rough go, that totally stinks. I was wondering the same things as Cassandra - is it that your IC doesn't respond to pain meds or that there are ugly side-effects?
And yes, she's so right, the diet can be a great tool. Maybe not take all discomfort away, but certainly lessen it to a dull roar so you can re-group and get your "strength" back to keep at trying to find a combo of help for you!! :)
Here's a link right to the IC Diet foods list, if you haven't found it already! ;)

One of my favorite tricks as well is my heating pad or the Thermacare Heat Patches for when you can't have your heating pad, like for travel or sleep...
And hopefully some of the rest of the gang will chime in with some info!!

i have to take pain killers for my IC or i ended up bedridden, but not all icer are that way they can take diff types of treatments that done involve pain medicine with the IC diet to get there IC under control and go on and live happy normal life's. minis the diet part but after time that becomes a normal thing for many.
I hope i understood your question right if not I'm so sorry.
sending you hugs and prayers

Hello and welcome to the ICN. I also have a very high tolerance to all kinds of meds, especially pain meds. The doctors are always astounded at what I take b/c I am so small. But I have been on them for a long time, so I think most people would develop a tolerance after awhile.
Maybe if you could be a little more specific about what kinds of pain meds you have tried we could help a little more. Nice to meet you

I have found that the Duragesic Patch (50 mg) works better than all the pain medications I have taken.
