New Member question about cathing and Pain

Hi, I am newly diagnosed also. I have the Elmiron instillations. I have a tremendous amount of uretheral pain and the cath was excruciating. My doc suggested a Supra Pubic Cath. And other than blocking from sediment has decreased my pain. Any one else have a Supra Pubic Cath? TIA

You could ask for some lidocaine gel for the urethra pain.

I've heard of a Supra Pubic Catheter and have known it to be one that is in your bladder through your abdomen, at the top portion of your bladder. Ask if they can either use a pediatric (the smallest) catheter or like the one I use, which is an infant feeding tube (which is smaller than the smallest pediatric urinary catheter).

Step right up gals to Nurse Barb's explanation of the the unexplainable. Sorry, I have been up all night feeling rotten and am now pretty darn comical. Suprapubic caths are inserted just above the pubic hair line with a large Fr cath and balloon. They are put through the bladder lining and muscle layer with a trocar.

If you cover the first inch of the cath with lidocaine and insert it slowly it makes a huge difference. When it's shoved in quickly it causes friction
