I had a hydro last week, the Dr. said my bladder looked normal but when he started to stretch it, it started to bleed and bleed immediately. He got it to 1/2 a liter. How many cc's is that and what is normal and what do IC'ers have? My doctor said he doesn't want to diagnose IC, but isn't that what glumerations or whatever they are called is? Can you have a bleeding bladder and not have IC? He also commented several times that he was pleased and thinks I'll do real well? What does that mean?! I don't feel real well, although he seems to think I sound better?! My potassium test was negative (FYI). Any advice would be great.

Hi!
It's possible you had bleeding because he stretched it too much. If you tested negative for the potassium test that is a good sign, and you may not have IC. I really pray you don't. Half a liter for capacity is quite good. What kind of symptoms are you having?

Half a liter is 500 cc, which is about a pint. That's significantly lower than a normal bladder capacity under anesthesia. If the potassium test was negative, that may be the reason he wants to wait and see before making a diagnosis. It may take you a while to recover from your surgery.
Normal bladder capacity when awake is about 500 cc, and under anesthesia is about double that.

These doctors make me crazy! The ones that try to tell us that our bladders look fine, and try to say we don't have IC, even though we have all the symptoms (asuming you do). You can't always believe urologists, most of them don't know anything about IC even when they claim to specialize in it. I have been told by two different urologists(both claimed to be experts) that my bladder is normal looking and that I don't have IC, just Fibromyalgia. I had already been diagnosed with IC years before, had the ulcers and everything, and very sensitive to potassium. Since you weren't, hopefully you don't have IC. The second doctor who said my bladder was fine, had distended it too much and punctured it, kept denying it so it ruptured, and then died, I ended up with necrosis of the bladder. I had to have emergency surgery, because I was dying. Right now I have an augmented bladder, and I can't pee on my own so I have to catheterize all the time, and because of the surgery my IC got even worse. Now I have to have my bladder and urethra removed, all of this because a stupid urologist didn't know IC when he saw it and he filled it up too much. He ruined my life! my whole story is under Bladder Surgery (Dr. Raz wants to remove my bladder and urethra, ect.)
Hopefully you don't have IC, there are a few thing where the symptoms are very similar, Fibromyalgia, endometriosis, ect. I think you need to get a second opinion, just be very careful who you go to. Maybe someone on the board lives in your area and can recomend someone. Good luck and feel better!

Thanks for the repiles, someone asked about my sypmtoms they are: pressure as if there is something down there, that if I could just push out or have removed I would be better, a feeling of having to pee, but I don't. I don't actually go to the bathroom that often though, maybe 6-8 times a day. Just a few days ago it started hurting at the very end of urination, I haven't had any pain with urinating until now. Is that normal to have new symptoms from day to day. A lot of you say you get relief after you urinate, I actually usually feel worse, it's been like that from the beginning, I don't look forward to going. I am going to ask my doctor about a medicine to help with spasms, I read that a low dose 2mg. of Valium three times a day can really help pelvic floor. What antispasmodic medicine works the best? I am scheduled to see a Urulogist at the University of Minnesota, Fairview Hospital His name is Dr. Huckabee hopefully he knows more than my local urologist, anyone from MN heard of him? THanks
