I see chocolate in avoid food lists. I hadn't had chocolate for a long time, but I tried it last week. I didn't have any reaction to it. It didn't give me any flare or urgency at all :) I think I am ok with chocolate. I know everybody reacts differently when it comes to IC diet. I am so happy that I can handle chocolate.

That's great! I'm one of those who can have a little bit occasionally as long as I haven't tried any other potential problem foods. I don't usually even try.

The few times that I had chocolate, I had no problem either. I save that "splurge" for when I am really down. It makes me feel normal again.

I just heard something on a TV show where they investigated the actual amount of caffeine in chocolate. It turned out to be nearly nonexistant. Maybe that's why. I can eat chocolate without a problem, too.

The few times that I have had chocolate, I've never had a problem. (The last time was a few weeks ago when I got totally mad at a nursing home administrator and wanted to hang up the phone on her!! - but didn't, instead, I went and got me some hersery's kisses.)

:) I can eat chocolate - a little bit, and not very often. I don't flare immediately, but if I eat - say brownies - a couple days in a row, the flare comes with a vengence. Figures - my favorite is a no no.

Having been strict about the diet in all other respects, I refuse to give up chocolate too. (I don't smoke or drink anyway, so it's my only vice.) Homemade desserts seem to be okay, but I had a bad reaction to a Pillsbury brownie mix.
Is it the caffeine in chocolate or something else that causes a problem? Hershey's makes hot chocolate without caffeine...Good Night Kisses and Good Night Hugs (white hot chocolate.) I usually drink that at night because caffeine tends to keep me up for hours.
I can get away with the small amount of chocolate in white chocolate KitKats (there's still a bit of regular chocolate in the inside) and can get away with a tootsie roll if it's part of a meal & not eaten by itself.

I can eat a small amount of milk choc. with no problems, but I can't deal with rich choc. However I'm kind of a odd ball I've always loved white choc best when it came to a type of candy bar.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I can eat milk chocolate any time but I can not eat dark chocolate. The dark really tears my bladder up.

I recently added some chocolate back into my diet after a year and a half. I only had 2 small squares, because I don't want to press my luck.. No problem so far......liz

I can get away with small amounts of chocolate on occasion. When I first tried some without any negative effects, I thought that chocolate didn't bother me and continued to eat chocolate chip cookies for three days in a row before it kicked in and kicked my butt. I love dark chocolate and miss it dearly, but I'd rather not be in pain.
I'm making sure to behave diet wise this entire week because my company Christmas party is this weekend and I want a good dessert. They are having several options, one being a turtle cheesecake - cheesecake with fudge and carmel and pecans - YUM! I figure that as long as I don't test my bladder, I should be alright to try some.

I can eat chocolate but for some reason hot chocolate (cocoa with milk or water, especiially the commercial mixes) can cause a flare. Go figure!

I'm not surprised that the commercial mixes can cause flares. Look at the ingredients, I'm sure that there are probably preservatives and other additives that can cause problems.

I just consider it off limits. As a former "chocoholic" I am scared that once I try a nibble I won't be able to stop. Giving up chocolate was the absolute worst thing about the IC diet for me, and now after almost a year, I think I am finally over the mourning period.
