Does anyone have trouble with anti-inflammatories causing or worsening bladder pain? I used to be able to take ibuprofen and didn't have a problem with it until I developed hives! Then I took Bextra and it didn't cause any problems, but now I think it worsens or actually causes bladder pain (as many things do). This is after taking it for some time on a regular basis. If I go off of it my bladder pain eases up that day, but then I'm miserable in other ways (fibro). I know it's off the market now but I still have some and like using it. Any feedback?
Diana.

Ibuprofen is acidic...I can't tollerate it at all. I don't know if other anti-inflammatories are as well...but I suspect that is a possibility. :grouphug: I hope you feel better soon. Sucks when a med you need for something hurts something else. I live that life too. I will supscribe to this thread and see what I learn. :grouphug:

I had trouble with Aleve, but it was coupled with other meds that could have been the instigator.

I can't take anti-inflammatories because they cause severe stomach pain for me. I can get away with about two doses, then the pain kicks in.

I take a pain med called Ultram. For me it works good. It has some small anti-inflammatories in it and the doc said this is why it worked for me. I can not take advil and stuff like that though.

I can take ibuprofen without bladder pain, but it's affecting my esophagus. I really need to be off it but can't find anything else yet.

I think they cause more problems for me than what they are worth. I find my bladder is more irratated when taking them. When I am not taking them I seem to do better overall.

When I was in the process of being diagnosed with IC, my PCP prescribed Mobic, which is a NSAID. It didn't do much for the IC pain. I'm now on Elavil which has helped a bunch but still have some breakthrough pain and the uro nurse told me to go ahead and take the mobic when that happens. I have, it doesn't seem to bother me but I don't really know if it is helping much, either.
I can take Aleve usually without a problem.

I found this thread because I've been on ibuprofen and it's causing some pretty nasty pain. I was rear ended last week so I've been taking Ibuprofen for the muscle aches and tension. Bad idea. I think I'll be skipping it in the future. Although I've never had this problem with just one dose.

Ibuprofen makes my IC flare almost immediately. Sometimes I can get away with one dose, but ALWAYS by the second dose I'm in pain. Sometimes it happens after the first dose as well. Just doesn't get along with me at all!!

Ibuprofen is acidic...it makes perfect sense that it would make someone flare. I know I can't take it. I would definitely not take it for IC pain since it would do a better job of making things worse. If it is the best choice for a different type of pain ever (which I would definitely try things more easily tolerated first) than I would be taking calcium with it each time I took it. Aspirin is acidic as well. Most decongestants aren't tolerated well either.

ibuprophen is a killer for me! I can maybe take one and not have a problem but any more after that....I'm doomed!
I took Advil Liquid gels a few months ago when my back went out. Nothing was helping so my hubby gave me one of those. It was great for the pain so I took another dose of it the next day. That was it for me. It gave me the flare from hell. I now avoid it at all costs. I try tylenol if I have any type of pain but thank god I haven't had to deal with that horrible sciatica pain. I don't know what I would take for it now. :(
