I was on Clomid (Fetility Drug) that raises your progesterone for 8 months and the whole time I got urgency and frequency. Then my doc put me on birth control b/c I had a cyst on my right ovary and it has progesterone in it, it also raises the progesterone level. As soon as I went off of the Clomid and birth control, the urgency and frequency disappered. The he had to put me back on birth control this month and the urgency and frequency came back. So I know for sure that high progesterone levels cause urgency and frequency for me. This scares me b/c when you get pregnant your progesterone rises. And people who have fertility trouble like me, have to have progesterone support during their pregnancies so I don't lose the baby.........this is going to suck. I don't know how I am going to do it. I even have a new bladder and this is still happening. All of the urine cultutres I have dropped off have been negative.............My Urologist said women going through fertility treatments can have urgency and frequency but he did not know for sure which hormone was the culprit. Well, now I know. I just discovered a new thing about IC. I am going to call him next week to tell him what I have discovered. Unforunately if I want to have kids, this is what I have to go through to do it. After I have my babies, I can try to get help for this. Maybe there will be some way they can lower my progesterone level. My kids will never know what I went through to have them. I hope it is all worth it in the end! It sucks b/c I have to catherize myself with a huge catheter every time I go. I can barely make it 2 hours with this progesterone problem. Each time I cath it irritates the bladder and urethra even more. Then it gets swollen. There is no med on the face of this planet that makes this urgency and frequency feel better. I know b/c I have tried them all!

OH AND BY THE WAY.....if we are not on birth control, and we cycle normally, the reason why we all feel rotten and get HUGE FLARES before our periods come is due in part to the fact that our progesterone level rises right after we ovulate and right before we get out periods. Interesting huh? Let's see what my doc has to say about this one!

Kara,
I feel your pain and know that you know my take on this whole situation. I have endured both ends of this and would be happy to help you anyway I can. Don't suffer in silence and vent to me if you need to.

Hugs,

I know progesterone is a problem for a lot of us. The rise in levels during the month really effects things. I have to say though that I did not have this problem at all in pregancy. Probably because the estrogen also rises to an even greater level. (I was also on progesterone suppositories) they did not bother me. I know it is scary, but it is hard to say how your body will react to pregnancy. I did a lot better while pregnant and actually the best while breast feeding, which I did for a solid year and once I ended, forget it! As far as the cath goes, why don't you get a smaller cath? I used a pediatric sized one before and I know they sell them at pharmacies. Also, there are some advertizements for caths that do not cause so many problems etc. Check it out on this site.

My VV always acts up right after my period. I wonder if that has something to do with progesterone?
