Has anyone's IC symptoms gotten significantly worse after getting off of a birth control pill, particularly Ortho-tri-Cyclen??
Thanks

My IC started the second cycle after I quit Necon 1/35, a birth control pill I'd been on for 10 years. I have since tried 2 other pills (Mircette-my IC pain was horrible on this one, Yasmin-my IC pain was somewhat better), but went back on the Necon and my pain level dropped significantly. I had hoped that going back on it would reverse the IC, but it didn't.

it did not reverse your IC, but it made your symptoms significantly better, Right???

I'm just the opposite, going off hormones made me feel better. *sigh* I wish there was one answer for everyone, but as you can see we are all different. We have to do what feels best for us. Kathi

I was wondering if having my hyserectomy will make my IC somewhat more managable.
I have horrid periods and pain 3 weeks out of the month. When I took megace to stop my periods it was the nicest 3 months I had...

I don't know... I've been on Trivora-28 for a loooong time and haven't gone off, so I have no clue what would happen if I were to stop. Hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

Going back on the Necon made the urethral burning stop & the lower abdominal pain better, but did not change the food sensitivities or the constant sensation of pressure.

i was wondering that too . any one tried lupron depot? i was juust diagnosed with endo a week and a half ago thru a lap. my doctor suggested i take these shots to put me into menopause to stop the endo since she doesn't think she got it all since still in pain. i was afraid that it would make my bladder flare and i was right.not only am i flaring(the first week or two makes the symptoms worse) but i am not sleeping(another side effect of this wonderful drug). does anyone have experience with this?

Anyone who is taking birth control pills, please, please read John R Lee's books!!! If I had known in my early 20's about these books I would've never taken them!!! I'm 35, and going through early menopause now. I'm handling things the natural supplementation route and am much better now. You must heal your insides, not just treat the symptoms which is what doctors are taught to do!!! I have a friend who has Fibro as well, her bladder pain is GONE since she added these supplements to her intake. My urgency to pee is GONE too!!

Hi,

What birth control works better for IC. My doctor put me on birth control but I have been on 8 different ones, because of bleeding and other stuff. She now gave me Ovcon 35. Does that work for IC....

Any help???? Please.

Happy Thanksgiving

Um, you may have to keep trying different ones, I know that I was on the pill for over 10 years. I tried too many to begin naming them! I know that I was fine until I hit my mid 20's then I started having to switch every so often. Have you been able to determine which hormone is the one that doesn't agree with you? If you're interested in trying the natural route PM me & I'll give you information on what I take. I haven't taken any prescription meds for my IC since 2001 and I've been okay (except when I go from warm to cold environments then I HAVE to pee!!).

Hi my name is Lara, you can read my story under Bladder surgery (Dr. Raz wants to remove my bladder and urethra and I'm Scared) my horrible story in there.
Anyway, about 2 years ago I started traetment with a doctor that does natural medicine. Even though I told her that I thought my birth controll helped my IC a little, cuz when I would forget to take it my flares were worse, she demanded that I stop taking it. she said that birth controll caused IC, but sure enough I got worse after going off of it. I was on Zovia I think that is the generic name but it is the same type as Orthro. I was off of it for over a year and I just kept getting worse and worse and I didn't even get my period that whole time ether. I just went back on it last month and although my bladder is not better, I did get my period a little after about a year of not getting it. I am still hopeing that it will help, maybe once it has more time to be in my system. Although my bladder and urethra are so damaged at this point the doctors say nothing will help, but atleast I am getting my period again.
I hope you are feeling better.

Hi Lara,

I am sorry that you are having such a hard time also. I have had IC for about 3 years now and after going through 5 doctors I finally found one that would listen but of course nothing is ever easy. We got new insurance under my husband and now the new doctor that I liked is not on the plan so I have to start all over again. My gyno keeps switching my pill because of break through bleeding...I have only been on for 6 months. I do feel alot better when I am on it but I am not sure if the one I am taking is working quite right. Should it be more estrogen and less progres? I guess it is a guessing game. I am also flaring right now so I am also taking cipro hoping that might help a little. I like being on the birth control but I dont want my period because my flares hurt worse when I am getting my period. So I try to go from pill to pill so I could avoid the period.

I haven't read your story yet but I am going to. If they remove your bladder will the pain go away for you? What is the success rate? My IC is not that severe that I can function. If your IC is that severe and you cannot function that I would say it would be a wise decision to remove your bladder for a normal life.....Dont be scared...It can only improve your quality of life if that is what you really need.

I hope your thanksgiving was great :)

Hi Robin,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too.
I know it sounds stupid that I wanted my period to come back, especially since it makes my IC worse too. The only reason I wanted it back is because it isn't healthy to not get it especially for as long as I wasn't getting it. And someday when I am better (hopefully that day will come for all of us and soon) I really want to have kids, which would be impossible without a period.
As for the surgery it is the percentage that terrifys me, because so far I have always fallen into the bad percentage. The surgery is supposed to definitly help the frequency
and food sensitivitys, but only an 80% chance of helping the pain. A lot of people get stuck with phantom pain, or the Ic takes over again, I am just praying for once that I don't fall into the bad percentage.
I have no idea which hormone should be higher, I think it depends on the person. I think the one I take only has a small amount of progestrone. Actually I don't think women are supposed to get a lot of progestrone, so it should most likely be the lower one.
Take care and feel better, write anytime.
Lara
