Does Elavil make anyone else worse?

I took Limbitrol, which contains Amitriptyline, the same anti-depressant that is in Elavil. I took it for four years. It did cause me to have to go to the bathroom more, but worse than that, it made me put on weight, and caused all sorts of sexual dysfunction problems. I am weaning myself off the drug now, and almost 2 weeks later my sexual life has returned to normal, I lost 10-15 lbs, and my eyes are not really dry. Don't take this pill. Does help for sleep, but not worth the side affects.

It did that to me too. I only tried 2mg. and couldn't believe it could affect me that badly on such a low dose.

It made my bladder symptoms much worse, too. What really got me was that my urologist insisted that my reaction was impossible - that Elavil only relieves bladder pain, never causes it.

Dianne. I lost all libido practically and I was taking really small doses of it too. It seems to affect both male and female libido, from things I have been reading. After spending tons of money trying to correct my problems, I convinced myself i had to get of the anti-depressant to evaluate the situation. Bingo - I feel like a man again.
