Hi friends,
I had posted last week about the ovarian cyst problems that i have had.
I had a 4cm cyst which came down to 2 cm after one month of bcp.
My gyn asked me to continue bcp for one more month after that and then stop,as he said that will ake care of the cyst.
I did accordingly and now this is my first month without bcp.
The problem is i am still in pain when i lift heavy things or excercise etc.I am just not able to get back to my normal routine and am putting on weight because i cannot excercise properly.
I called the gyn today and he called back.He says the reason for my pain could be scarring from the cyst or that cyst could still be present but smaller.
He said the bcp had shut down my ovaries for 2 months and now that i was off them my ovaries are beginning to function again and so i could be more sensitive to pain in the ovary.
I told him i am worried as i have some bloating and gas also and he says that is not related to the ovarian cyst.
He said an ultrasound is not recommended for a small cyst like mine( it was less than 2 cm on my last u/s) so he would advice me to wait and watch and only if the pain is too severe to worry. As for the pain i have now he says i should take advil, that is all.He says the fact that the cyst shrunk means it is not something bad, only a cyst.
Then i asked him if he thought going back on bcp was a good idea,as that would help the cyst go away completely if it is still there?
He said yes i can do that for a couple more months.
Now i am not sure what i should do,go back on bcp startng this month or not.
Since he did not suggest that on his own but agreed with me when i suggested.
I need advice on this and also what do you think is going on with my ovary.
Do you think there is reason to worry? Please advice me friends.
As you might have noticed already from my previous posts,i am a big worrier and tend to think about the worst and just tend to think too much.
I need advice and support and reassurance from you.
Please do not lose patience with me.
Thank you for all the support you have given me always.

If you're having doubts, and it does sound like you are, my suggestion would be to seek a second opinion.

I agree with Donna...especially since his pain advise would not be good for your bladder. When you add that to your worries and his seemingly not want to work with you attitude a second opinion seems like a good choice to me. I hope you feel better soon. My advise would be to not worry but keep fighting and to keep fighting it looks like second opinion is the way to go from here. Good luck!

I've has a cyst on both of my ovaries for close to 30 yrs. When I was dx with IC I thought it was ovary pain. I have gone thru menopause & they thought would get rid of them, but I just had an ultrasound & I still have them both, they are about 2cm. I wouldn't worry about them , but the pain maybe IC pain & not the ovary, like mine was. Please ask your doc about it or if you seek a second opinion ask him Hugs, Kathi

Sabin,

I have struggled with ovarian cysts for the past 17 years. What I have learned is that every month when a woman ovulates her ovaries make a small cyst and it breaks open and then egg then comes out. Sometimes the cyst fills with fluid and gets a little bigger and causes pain. Sometimes scarring can happen. For many of us, they just happen and hurt. BCP's can help if you aren't wanting to get pregnant and if you don't mind any possible side effects. Advil is a really big help. They can come and go. Also know that IC pain and pelvic pain often feel the same. Since the female parts are next door neighbors to the bladder, they can irritate each other and the pain can feel the same----it hurts and its near impossible to tell where it comes from.

I would definitely go see you doctor and bring a paper with all your questions and concerns on it and hand it to him when he walks in the room. If you feel he is just blowing you off, GET A SECOND OPINION OR FIND A NEW DOC. Don't waste your time and life if your doc isn't helping you. Don't give up!!!!
