I've read references to what kind of water everyone drinks. Is there a difference between tap water, bottled water and well water ? We have well water where I live.

I drink tap water but I have a pur filter. Whatever you do stay away from Dasni. It was my favorite until I found out it has high levels of potassium/sodium in it.

Yes, water is different and you have to find out what works best for you. For me filtered or spring water is best.

This is on another subject...it has to do with bread. Would love to know what breads are most agreeable with ic'ers .....do you have reactions to wheat?? also, have any of you tried Ezekial bread (might have spelled it wrong) it is usually in the frozen section...any opinon s of acceptable breads that seem to agree with ic bladders...
Thanks,
Momoficson

As far as water goes, I have good luck with my home tap water (well-water) and as far as bottled goes, I too have troubles with Dasani, eeeek! I have good luck with Aquafina.

As far as bread goes, I am fine with any as long as there is no soy flour in it. For me soy flour = multiple potty trips!! :)

Hugs!

How could something as simple as water be so complicated, huh? The others are right. Not all water is the same.

For those living in cities, tap water usually comes from a community water supply. The water has been treated to purify and cleanse it. Most communities add chlorine to the water to reduce bacteria. Unfortunately, many of us have bladders that are not fond of chlorine and find if we drink this water, we have increased frequency or pain.

For those who have their own wells, what the water has in it depends on the type of rock and soil the water has passed through before it is pumped out of the well into the house. For many, drinking well water is ok, especially if the water has a bit of lime (calcium) in it which makes the water more alkaline. Unless for some reason you have to treat your well, the water does not have irritating chlorine in it.

Not all bottled water is the same, either. Reading the labels of bottled water is important so you know how the water has been treated and where that water came from. Some of it is bottled right out of a city's water supply. Distiled water has had all minerals removed from it. Many of us drink a brand of natural spring water (water that has been bottled straight from a natural spring). The minerals spring water has depend on the rocks the water passes through. Every brand of bottled spring water has it's own source for their water. Therefore, some of us find we do better with one brand of bottled spring water than another, depending on the minerals that are in that spring water. And some companies use purified water and then add minerals back into their water to give it a better taste. Dassani is a brand that adds minerals to their water and many of us have found the minerals Dassani adds are irritating to the bladder.

Finding what water is best for your bladder is a matter of trying a few and seeing how your bladder responds.

It's the clorine that is the problem for me. When I buy bottled water, I just make sure it's spring water with no additives.

momofficson,

I used to LOVE Eziekiel bread before IC. Then I stopped eating it because one of the ingredients is sprouted soy, and I was too scared to try it. Recently, I was feeling better and I tried it with no ill effects. I think that I don't want to push my luck, so it will be a special occasion bread for me. I usually just get bread from my local organic bakery. (I am lucky because my town has 3 organic/natural bakeries!) The ingredients are just whole wheat, white unbleached flour, filtered water, sea salt, and yeast. Sometimes I get the one with oats. It is very good.

:) Thanks everyone. I have another water question. We have a water softener for the well water. Does the salt make any difference ?

Hey HoneyGirl, I don't have a softener on mine, where I live it's not needed....hopefully some with them will chime in!!!

Hi. I'm really confused.
I'm new to IC (diagnosed Nov.17).
I saw in the IC diet thing that I should stay with the "OK" column (because I have vuvodynia) and I'm scared to try foods in the "Might be OK" column. This whole diet thing is driving me nuts!!
I'm dragging Evian bottles with me everywhere I go (and they're the most expensive water out there!!)
So, do you guys think I can try other bottled waters?
I used to drink "Real Canadian" -natural spring water (bottled water)
Ingrediants: spring water, ozone
non-carbonated,dissolved mineral salts:266 p.p.m., fluoride ions:0.2p.p.m.
Na...17,
Is that what I need to look for?
Is that spring water OK?

please help.
Thank-You,
KarenMay

Hi KarenMay!!

For me, I do fine with Aquafina. And like you I drag a bottle everywhere, lol. To the doctor's office, to work etc. I stay away from any bottled waters that have ANY additives. Dasani just cranks up the gotta-pee now now now thing, and it has added minerals from what I understand.

LOL, I can so relate to the being afraid to try things!! Who knew food could strike fear in our hearts! :) But, it took me awhile before I started adding things in, about 3-5 weeks.

Then I had another consideration, my sweetie was only home on weekends and I worked during the week -- when to actually TRY experimenting? If it goes bad I either ruin the weekend, or end up missing work etc. Ugh. It was tough. But I just bit the bullet and started and honestly I found that not a whole lot bothered at all. What a relief!!! ;)

So, that's about all I can tell you from my experiences, I sure hope it helps a little...

Hugs! :)

Thank-you. I'll try going back to my spring water when I get to less painful days to see what happens.

Just in case anyone is wondering about it, spring water from coolers seem to irritate IC, at least mine that ; )
My mom said it probably has to do with the way it is kept cold, and it also seems to contain a lot of 'residue' when it sits in the holding compartment.
We have a cooler and I have since stoped getting water from there and just drink spring water from bottles and jugs, and it seems to make a difference

I always feel much better at my parents' house, where they have a water cooler with bottled water. Or when I'm usually at school drinking bottled water. Because I live in an apartment and we have town water, are they required to compensate me in some way if I can prove that it's medically necessary for me not to drink the town water? I have a Brita water filter, but sometimes you can still smell the chlorine.
