Has anyone tried homeopathy or ayurvedic medicine for IC? I have heard good things about both for urinary problems but wasn't sure specifically about IC.

The only thing that helped me was a homeopathic medicine called copaiva prescribed by my naturopath  . I have to say I was pretty skeptical of homeopathy but it is the only that worked in 13 years. I still watch my diet but everytime I have a flare i go to my naturopath and she prescribes copaiba (don't remember the dosage, 30c?) and it works wonders!!! BTW, I've been able to cheat on my diet many times with no consequences :woohoo: as I long as I don't eat spicy food too many days in a roll

Are there specifics things or herbs you are interested in trying? I want to erge you to be careful and whenever you are looking into an unconventional treatment to research it. Some things may be harmful for IC patients and without specifics it is hard to know what to tell you.
That being said I do beleive that healing the mind, body, soul, and spirit help to get success. I use a multiple of different techniques to treat my symptoms...and I am sure if I was only following conventional medicine I would be a lot worse off than I am. I also believe that a lot of problems arive from our bodies being too acidic.

I hope you find relief in whatever you try.

I tried homeopathic remedies off and one for several years before I was officially diagnosed. I was helped somewhat by homeopathic doses of cantharis and apis. The apis in particular was very helpful - it's a remedy for "stings", which is what my bladder was doing to me. If you do some research online, or consult a homeopathic doctor or book of remedies, you'll find that the remedies are selected according to your symptoms - for instance, "pain after urination" is a different remedy from "stinging during urination" is a different remedy from "inability to empty bladder", etc.

Of course everyone should check with their doctor and be cautious before trying anything, but homeopathis remedies are such teeny tiny doses I think they are very safe to experient with. If you're not helped by a particular homeopathic remedy within a day or so, it's not the correct remedy, and you can move on and try another one. I actually tried about 4 or 5 of the homeopathic remedies for "bladder problems", and the apis and cantharis worked pretty well for me - the others didn't work for me. I can't remember what the other ones were except that one was sarsparilla.

Ayurvedic medicine, on the other hand, uses relatively high doses of herbs and other ingredients; it's more like western medicine which works quickly and dramatically, and I would be very cautious when trying an ayurvedic remedy without a doctor's supervision.

I tried homeopathy. I used cantharis and 2 others that I can't remember. I did them because I saw a homeopathic doctor when my IC first started. They did not work for me, but I was in a very acute stage then and nothing worked. I have used homeopathy previous to IC for other reasons and it worked wonderfully. After I got hit by a van while riding my bike, I healed all my bruises using only homeopathy. I wish it worked better for my IC...

I also agree with Katrina. If I was just taking meds I believe that I would be worse off than I am now, with the med/diet/alternative medicine complimentary therapy.

I realize this is a very old thread but I wanted to bump it up.
I am interested in knowing if anyone has tried homeopathy or ayurvedic medicine for IC and had success with it.

Would appreciate any responses :)
