Hey all, I went to work yesterday Sat. and before I went in I stopped at a gas station. When I was at the counter this man walked in and said he was having a heart attack. I told the man behide the counter to call 911 immediately. The man was already on the floor breathing very hard. I nelt down beside him put my hand on his shoulder and told him that help was on the way. The man didn't know where he was but he told me that he didn't know how long he had been wwaking for and that he started hurting a block away. After all this was said he was silent I asked him another question to keep him conscius he didn't answer. I looked at his chest he had stopped breathing.....I immdiately started CPR. By the time that the EMS showed up I had revived the man and told the Ems the whole thing and everything that the man had told me. He was taken to the hospital and I hope he's ok. Well that was the beginning of my day at 5:00am. Thought I would share it with all of you. This is a good example of why people should know CPR and First Aid.

 I was wondering if anyone else has any stories that have been good that you can share with us, we all I think would most enjoy reading them.:woohoo:

Wow fantastic Veronica!! You go girl! Very glad you were trained to know CPR, it is such an important skill to have. I agree everyone should know it, and pray you never have to use it!

Again, glad you were there to help, that's the best gift you could give anyone - help saving their life...

HUGS!!!!

I've had CPR classes (through work) but haven't had to use it. I'm so unsure that I would be able to remember and I worry that I might freak in the face of something like that. Were you nervous at all? Or did your mind just go into "this is why I took the class and this is what to do?"

Again, you are a hero, especially to that poor man and his family!

Angela it's not a matter of being scared. If you ever come in contact with this all you do is take a deep breath and say that you can do it. Thats really all anyone has to do if they put their minds to it youcan do anything you want too. And yes I was scared I was acutually was teriffied. These kind of things don't make you a hero they make you stronger and make your self confidence better thats really all. Thanks for the compliments.

Wow, I so admire you -- that's an incredibly scary situation and you truly handled it heroically. This has inspired me to renew my CPR and first aid knowledge.

Thank you!!! And thank you for sharing this story. What happened to you could happen to any of us, anywhere, anytime. Thank goodness you were trained and took action. If only rescue breathing, CPR and basic first aid training were mandatory, so many more lives could be saved! All of us have a huge responsibility to learn these techniques and be prepared to aid our children, our family members, friends and even perfect strangers when emergency situations occur.

I worked for the American Red Cross for several years and kept up-to-date on my training. However, now that I am retired, I haven't taken a class in awhile and my certification has lapsed. Thank you for reminding me I need to get into a refresher class asap! Until I can get into a class, I pulled my training manual from the bookshelf and will go over the material just to refresh my mind.

You saved one life by your actions. Reminding all of us of our responsibility to either seek training or refresh our training could lead to many more lives being saved. THANK YOU!!!!!

I was wondering if any of you have not really done the same thing but in helping some one. A person that even opens a door or helps someone in need is heroic just not in the same way. But I would like to hear some of you guys' stories of helping people. Think of this as encouragement and a self- esteem coarse. It will help everyone to feel better about each other. So lets hear those stories of helping some one or something (like a dog or something like that). Lets help each other feel good about ourselves and to help others feel good about themselves. It's a win win situation.
