Denied-Short term disability

I got a letter from the underwriting department for my insurance company. They denied me being able to take out short-term disability insurance because of being diagnoised with cystitis. They didn't say interstitial cystitis just cystitis. So I guess they feel this is bad enough and they don't want to gamble that I will be able to continue to constantly work. No joke, the way I feel it's a challenge to make myself go to work many days.It really upsets me that they wouldn't okay me for the insurance because I wanted some kind of financial backup in case this IC stops me from being able to work.

so sorry that you were denied.. I think I would ask them about the dx they have.. IC and cycstits are 2 different things...... I hope that they reconsider.. good luck and feel better.

I agree - make sure they understand the distinction between Interstitial Cystitis and Cystitis. If you can get ahold of the ICD9 codes for each (assuming that is how they code them in )that might help. Fight this for SURE!!!! They made their decision based upon the wrong diagnosis. Don't give up until you are sure they realize what you have and that it's not as "simple" as a UTI.

Is what you're saying that they won't sell you disability insurance? or do you have disability insurance and they're denying your claim? I couldn't tell for sure. If you have group insurance, they may cover you after a waiting period --- I suggest you check that out.

I'm saying that they won't sell me disability insurance. It's group insurance through work. They didn't mention anything about the possibility of being able to buy it after a waiting period just that they have determined that they are unable to issue disability coverage on me at this time due to medical information regarding cystitis in June 2005. I wonder, but seriously doubt, that if I call them and explain IC from regular cystitis ,if that would make a difference. I'm quite sure if they understood IC, they would deny me even faster.

I completely misunderstood - I thought they weren't covering something. Oops!

I think those companies can pretty much turn you down if they want to based on an existing condition. I am surprised they turned you down b/c of cystitis, though. Interstitial Cystitis I can see - but a UTI????
