allergic to elmiron?

I just was wondering whats the longest anyone has been on elmiron and how many pills? if you read the thread black stool you can get the story on me, but to make it short i was taking 9 a day. and the doctors couldn't figure out was wrong with me because i lost 60 pounds and they diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis. so the only option they could think of because i was dwindiling away was to stop the elmiron because i was allergic to it or on it to long. so my point is i have gained 40 pounds back and don't have diareaha anymore. but my ic is alot worse now so i just don't know what to do anymore. has anyone had any similar problems. all i know is i won't go on elmiron again but i need help. thanks Bobbi

I've been on Elmiron for 5 years....in the beginning it was 3 day for the past year and half or so it has been 6 a day. I had UC as a kid (before ever on Elmiron) and still have the illness in another form. No doctor ever suspected in me that Elmiron played a part in my symptoms.

There are a number of others with IC that have UC or some other form of Inflamatory Bowel Disease. I can't immagine having to give up Elmiron. I really, really, feel for you. Did they try treating the UC any other way?

Are you on any different treatment for your IC? There are herbs available in the ICN store http://www.icnshop.com/ some can help coat the bladder similar to what Elmiron does. Also Heparin instills do a similar thing too.

thanks for the information i will have to try something else. i am only on detrol for the over acctive part. But i just can't risk getting so sick again and elmiron is the only cause that made sense. Thanks again bobbi
